WWYD - helping out with Covid

I have recently applied to be a vaccine volunteer. I have never done healthcare before would think everyone in nhs is completely amazing and would love to look back and know I have done something to help the cause.

However... my family are very concerned that volunteers don't get the vaccine themselves and so that I would be putting the family at risk by exposing myself to so many people.

I'm so torn because I want to help... but I also don't want to put my family at risk 🤷‍♀️

Look for local charities that volunteer to help people. Our local one that does things like picks up people's shopping has run out of volunteers and is having to turn people away.
Often it's a case of picking up their click and collect and leaving it outside the door, or doing small weekly shop for an elderly single person who is shielding. It's really needed at present.

A lot of volunteers are getting vaccinated with any left over vaccine at the end if a shift

I think it's disgusting, they should have the vaccination first, but I think you will get vaccinated pretty quickly.

You should have PPE & of course you can arrive in your own mask.

There should be good ventilation.

I don't think it'll be very risky in itself.

How okd are you? How is your own health? Is anyone in your household vulnerable?

Yes I did. I was suggesting another way of volunteering which is also vitally needed that was going to be less risky in the family's eyes.

In my trust we have vaccinated extremely clinically vulnerable staff at work first, then those working with patients with covid, then the rest of the staff. Vaccinators get their vaccinations with the rest of the staff.

You might not even get through to be a vaccinator - the red tape is horrendous! I'm slogging through the e - learning required now and finding I'm loosing the will to live...

Thank you @WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants that sounds more reassuring and I suppose that's something I can double check on my interview about the PPE and ventilation etc.

@Vintagevixen ooo that doesn't sound good! Maybe I will leave it to fate then if I can manage to get through all that training then I will give it a go 🤷‍♀️ good luck with yours x

My husband is becoming quite adamant that he doesn't want to do it. I feel really disappointed ☹️
