The saga continues to continue with more sequels than a trilogy of trilogies...

According to the groomer I use they are still open as long as the grooming is for welfare reasons. Mine was as DDog has really thick, woolly fur that just doesn’t dry out this time of year and puts him at risk of fungal skin infections but there was a Cockerpoo in front of us that was just in for a quick clip.

The groomer on the thread had cancelled the appointment saying they weren’t allowed to open according to new legislation but I don’t know where that has come from unfortunately. It wasn’t clear if the groomer had just misinterpreted the current advice before the thread vanished.

Thanks @Iheartmysmart

Thank you for your wise words.
ISay, I have exactly the same 2 questions.

@NoisyBrain

The dog grooming thread has now been zapped.

Good to see MNHQ clamping down on sanctimonious cuntery.

There were some vile posters piling on, so I'm sort of glad it got taken down. But there was a great (long) post from a professional groomer that was full of good sense.

I did LOL a bit at the people whining (geddit?) about covid spreading like wildfire on dogs' fur. Grin

Weedsnseeds1 · 14/01/2021 21:54

Funerals are even less essential than dog groomers according to one of the latest threads. Attending one is rule breaking and the reason we are in lockdown, it seems. You couldn't make this shit up.

Iheartmysmart · 14/01/2021 22:00

I’m getting to the point where I’m seriously concerned how some people are going to function when life returns to normal. What are they going to do with their time and who will they judge.

justasking111 · 14/01/2021 22:07

People who like to rant/complain came into their own with brexit, they have now morphed into covid ranters. I am sure there will be something else to occupy their time once covid ceases to be front page news.

Our dog groomers are open as long as we can walk there or incorporate it into part of an essential journey in Wales, so drop dog off, go to Asda, then back to groomers I guess.

I had to really restrain myself on that one not to say something banable about some of the (insert expletive of choice) responses on that one.

There are definitely a lot of MNers so many sandwiches short of a picnic that they'd have no issue getting past Derbyshire Police.

I don't think they're worried about their ability to return to normal, they think it's never going to happen, at least not in the next year. While I'm not holding my breath on mass scale indoor events for a while, they're going to get a nasty shock when restrictions ease through the spring...

They'll go back to having a pop at fat people, smokers, drinkers and drug addicts. Oh, and benefits 'cheats'.

Has anyone seen the Home Office Just Chilling advert? Good God

BogRollBOGOF · 14/01/2021 22:28

There is a strong correlation between my snooze and unfollow button being activated for Remoaners/ Corbynites/ patronising Covid schmuck. It's not necessarily the politics of it, it's the relentless and single minded attitude and unwillingness to have open debate that tends to accompany it.

OP posts:
Iheartmysmart · 14/01/2021 22:30

Oh gosh yes! And there will be many more benefits “cheats” for them to judge as well won’t there, what with so many people losing their jobs due to lockdowns!

Someone at work now refers to it as “the flexible future” I’m not sure how I feel about that if I’m honest,

justasking111 · 14/01/2021 22:38

Our food banks were flat out over christmas one local cafe made itself a drop off point in the town, they were flooded with stuff and supplied three food banks within a ten mile radius. The co-op gave a lot as did many other local shops and people. Now I do not know if it went to people who lost jobs, the usual customers who needed more because of school lock downs. But they certainly need a lot more than they did before covid. Perhaps they will complain about them when they clock it.

SirSamuelVimes · 14/01/2021 22:47

Am going back a few posts now, but someone mentioned not having any reaction to the daily death / daily cases figures. I'm the same. I just don't care anymore. And I know that some people Over There would be calling me a psychopath or whatever, but I just don't have it in me to care anymore. It's become background noise. It's a bit like the comparison someone made to road deaths. We know people die in traffic accidents all the time, but we don't actually care about it day to day, do we? Or the two women a week (three at the moment) killed by their boyfriends/husbands. We switch off from all these horrible things until they directly effect us. I'm switched off from Covid. It kills people, well fuck me, so do a lot of things.

Bloody hell, that's very 'stasi' like. I was actually waiting for some soundbite/catch phrase rhyming 'chillin' with 'killin' Grin

NannyGythaOgg · 14/01/2021 22:58

@MissEWeatherwax

In my junk mail today, I received a leaflet for funeral directors, I think it might be a sign 😂
Might be a sign that they are not as busy as they expected to be.
MoltenLasagne · 14/01/2021 23:08

People's brains aren't built to understand mass figures of people on any scale. Isn't there a saying "a single death is a tragedy, a million deaths are a statistic."

AcornAutumn · 14/01/2021 23:14

I think the people who don't approve of dog grooming are imagining this

Jourdain11 · 14/01/2021 23:32

You can't be too fat or too thin on Mumsnet. I'd come into the latter category (even before leukaemia turned me into a wraith) but despite eating a completely normally unhealthy diet, I'd be told that I must "live on leaves of lettuce and exercise obsessively".

Jourdain11 · 14/01/2021 23:33

So I'm sure some of the roooolz brigade will happily jump back on the fat/thin shaming bandwagon!

Jourdain11 · 14/01/2021 23:34

There have been some really unpleasant comments about free school meals of late, too...

MercyBooth · 15/01/2021 00:02

While expecting all the people that they treat with derision and disdain, to wear a mask to protect them.

ISaySteadyOn · 15/01/2021 06:16

There's a funeral directors that I pass when I go walking sometimes. It has a sign on it that says 'Closed due to Covid'. I think my sense of humour is a bit macabre but I find it amusing.

@thefallthroughtheair, I hope it helps to know you are not alone with those two questions.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 15/01/2021 06:46

I had a very interesting conversation with a local journalist here (she is very accessible on social media and she's written a couple of stories with people I know) about the figures in our local hospital and I asked the question why no one is covering this.
She said that it has been covered and sent me the article. The article covered large outbreaks in the hospital and the response from the hospital was "still come in, if you're having a heart attack or stroke you're better off in the hospital".
However this article was published in June. June and there has been no improvement.

She also went on to say its frustrating as she is battling with them to try and get the story but the nhs/central government are making it very difficult for local journalists and no one at the hospital Trust ever responds.
