The saga continues to continue with more sequels than a trilogy of trilogies...

The thought that it will be 24 hours a day, in the near future.

Can't he use headphones for TV?

I'm starting to get a bit concerned by lockdown. We've stayed in the house almost permanently since March, only leaving for grocery shopping and the odd walk, but now it's winter, another lockdown and central heating, both DH and I are starting to look quite ill.

I look like a ghost, feel very lethargic, and have come up in sore spots on my face. The exhaustion was so bad yesterday, I actually wondered whether our boiler might be spewing carbon monoxide.

We both desparately need to get outside the house for a walk, but work keeps us indoors all day and then DD comes home from nursery and by then it's very dark.

We can't go on much longer like this. We need proper rigorous exercise outdoors, but the circumstances make it very difficult.

"AcornAutumn* yes, he can and does, but he pauses every 10 minutes to relate whatever he's been watching.
And then I get the urge to throttle him.

Weedsnseeds1 · 13/01/2021 00:12

I crave conversation, hence being so delighted to be on site at lsdt, even though its work.
This isn't a conversation, it's an endless monologue.

AcornAutumn · 13/01/2021 00:13

Packing you've seriously stayed in that much?

Do you get any kind of lunch break and if not, why not?

There must be sometime you can fit in walks, some days I have to walk in the dark but off I go.

You'll turn into mushrooms!

My sympathies

I had a flatmate who monologued at me.

Meh , I’ve been on the wine and the made the mistake of going over ‘there’ and saw the stamina thread.

I think I have turned into a mushroom. Sad

We both work from home Monday to Friday. All evening meetings are now on Zoom. Once dd comes home, we eat and then it's dark. And it's dark dark here; we are semi-rural.

There's nowhere really to go. In summer, we spent a lot of time in the garden, but now all destinations that are still open are thronged with people and it's very uncomfortable. Not from a covid perspective per se, but from an inability to walk a few steps without having to stop to negotiate the pathway.

I envy people with land now in a way that I think is unhealthy. Blush

Gkab to hear your brother is on the mend @LivinLaVidaLoki

That should be 'glad'.

Hello all, just checking in as can’t sleep

@starfish88 It was I who mentioned rioting. I think the government are secretly afraid of it, because they know that if it happened, they really would not be able to stop it: the police would be outnumbered; hence they're making some attempt not to go too far with restrictions, and it might have been why the first lockdown was so late; then they were surprised at how docile the public were about having their freedoms snatched away in one gulp. I know that if riots did happen, the government would indeed spin it into "all the public's fault"

I hear what you are saying about finding ways to nudge back - it is so difficult. I have written to my MP several times, and received the textbook "I hear your concerns, but people are dying" reply. However, any step towards putting this on record can help.

And with people "breaking roolz" by sitting on park benches, driving long distances to exercise, illegal parties, illegal haircuts, lifting children over the fence of locked playgrounds... those are nudges, in a way. The government (and Mumsnet) are spinning them as "irresponsible idiots killing grannies", but they are people showing their resistance.

We need to be fighting hard AFTER the pandemic. When there is some loosening of restrictions, I expect we'll be seeing regular marches, even if the government tries to hush them up. Lockdown has set a massive precedent: we need to be fighting to make sure it does not happen regularly. I'm sure the government have timed some resignations (including Boris's own) so that they'll be out of the way when people wake up from the government-induced torpor.

Worldgonecrazy · 13/01/2021 08:23

@Packingsoapandwater I share your concerns about lockdown. I’m particularly worried what will happen when we emerge. Our immune systems will be ruined by lack of outdoor time and lack of contact with other people, and the continual stress of scary messages. I don’t think we will see the true toll until a decade or so when we will see an increase in cancers etc.

ineedaholidaynow · 13/01/2021 08:28

@Packingsoapandwater what do you do at weekends?

Packingsoapandwater · 13/01/2021 08:56
@Packingsoapandwater what do you do at weekends?
We desperately try to think of places to go. 🤣

And then it starts raining, or snowing. I'm cautious now because I adopted a "to hell with it" attitude a few months ago and went out for a run on a local field. The field wasn't the problem, but when I walked down the steps to come home, I somehow went over on my ankle and there was a funny noise like elastic bands snapping. I hadn't broken anything, but I had to have help to trudge home and my damn foot still feels stiff now.

There's really not many places to go as a family where we are with DD being a three year old. Pre lockdown, weekends were dd's activities in a morning, then she'd spend an afternoon with grandparents while we shopped, cleaned, and cooked. In this situation, we really are struggling to occupy her during the weekend day.

CoffeeWithCheese · 13/01/2021 09:11

Morning. Same shit, different day here - sat under my leak in the conservatory trying to get the kids through their morning calls so I can get on with my stuff.

ISaySteadyOn · 13/01/2021 09:13

Are there any playgrounds near you where you can walk on a pavement? Ime if the smalls are bundled up tight, they're not fussed about rain or snow.

I also found one where there is a path I can do circuits around. Thus getting me moving a bit.

Buzzinwithbez · 13/01/2021 09:16

On the people nudging back. I've just left a message with the council for making the 'sensible decision' to keep parks and their carparks open ( slight patronising tone intended as they closed them all first time around...why?) and said that I hoped they would keep seafront carparks open too. They've implied that the beach is heaving at weekends. Hmm.
As a woman, the promenade is the safest place in town for me to exercise after dark as it's better lit and a more open space. I've been using it at dusk for that reason.

flower11 · 13/01/2021 09:32

My children are currently doing pe with joe. I feel like I'm back in march and it's ground hog day But this time with shittier weather. I haven't been on a proper long walk since Saturday as stuck in educating. I now have to work for four days . Will try to fit one in tonight as I know they make me feel so much better.

Yes, but dd is interested for about 15 mins and that's it. 😂 She just wants to run around endlessly and the playgrounds are fairly small and quite boggy outside of the equipment area.

I think we might try some woodland near us this weekend if it doesn't rain. But week days are just horrific.

SirSamuelVimes · 13/01/2021 10:17

Morning all. @Jourdain11 hope all goes well today.

I've got the eldest to the grandparents for the day and DH is actually in the office for the day (which he is delighted about!). So it's just me and dd2. So much easier! I can leave her to play for five minutes without elder sister interfering with whatever she's doing and the resulting screaming tantrum. I feel like my blood pressure is returning to normal!

Taswama · 13/01/2021 10:20

I would invest in some welly boots for all and waterproof gear (muddy puddles are good for kids) if you can @Packingsoapandwater . Then you can just strip the outer layer off when you get home.

Where do you live? I find even a 20 min walk around the housing estate with an audio book (I did this last week when it was getting too dark to go to our local woods) helps provide some relaxation. Parks and woodland are obviously nicer and our local woods was surprisingly quiet yesterday lunchtime. This may be because the cafe has decided to close.

AcornAutumn · 13/01/2021 10:20

Packing - you sound like you're making a rod for your own back. You have a house and garden, and yes, shock horror, the world contains people. Not seeing any reasons you've been staying in since March. Your choice. 🤷🏻‍♀️
