@starfish88 It was I who mentioned rioting. I think the government are secretly afraid of it, because they know that if it happened, they really would not be able to stop it: the police would be outnumbered; hence they're making some attempt not to go too far with restrictions, and it might have been why the first lockdown was so late; then they were surprised at how docile the public were about having their freedoms snatched away in one gulp. I know that if riots did happen, the government would indeed spin it into "all the public's fault"
I hear what you are saying about finding ways to nudge back - it is so difficult. I have written to my MP several times, and received the textbook "I hear your concerns, but people are dying" reply. However, any step towards putting this on record can help.
And with people "breaking roolz" by sitting on park benches, driving long distances to exercise, illegal parties, illegal haircuts, lifting children over the fence of locked playgrounds... those are nudges, in a way. The government (and Mumsnet) are spinning them as "irresponsible idiots killing grannies", but they are people showing their resistance.
We need to be fighting hard AFTER the pandemic. When there is some loosening of restrictions, I expect we'll be seeing regular marches, even if the government tries to hush them up. Lockdown has set a massive precedent: we need to be fighting to make sure it does not happen regularly. I'm sure the government have timed some resignations (including Boris's own) so that they'll be out of the way when people wake up from the government-induced torpor.
