Can rubbish bins actually fall into the lorry?

And what then happens? Do they get crushed?
This week our big green recycling bin disappeared completely. I’ve checked all around the area, with neighbours, everywhere. I heard the bin lorry come but didn’t go out to pull the bins back in for an hour or so as I was working. No evidence of any waste anywhere on the road and the large amount of extra recycling put out next to the bin was all gone. I’ve requested a new one, no problem.
Just wondering if this is actually able to happen and does it cause problems in the truck? Or has one of my neighbours just taken a fancy to my bin?
I realise this is very minor but it’s about the most exciting thing that’s happened recently 🤣🤣🤣

I don’t think so, but we once lost the lid of our wheelie bin which presumably fell off whilst it was bright emptied.

Sometimes they do fall in the bin lorry. You'll have to ring and get another one if they forget to replace it.

Or it's been pinched, which also happens.

Yes, this happened to my neighbour's bin because it wasn't secured properly to the lifting arms on the truck.

Oh yes this happened to my mum’s wheelie bin a while ago. One of the bin men knocked her door and pretty much said er sorry but your bin has just fallen in the lorry Grin the council sent a new one no problem.

firsttimedad79 · 09/01/2021 14:57

Yes they do, and most refuse lorries have cameras now to catch it as people use it as an excuse all the time to get a new bin.

Yes, it totally happens! We've lost a recycling bin this way I was actually watching it be emptied as I cleaned the windows and it never came back up. The council were great and replaced it promptly, but after chatting to them I discovered it's actually quite a common problem.

Graymare · 09/01/2021 15:03

Yes, they can. Council should replace it as will be on camera.

Lemonpiano · 09/01/2021 15:13

I watched it happen to one of my neighbour's bins.

BashfulClam · 09/01/2021 16:44

Yep, they keep a note if which street it happens on so when you call the council they’ll check if that’s what happened and deliver a new one.

Our bin went AWOL and after walking the area to see if it got moved I phoned the council to report it missing and they informed me that it had fallen into the lorry and they were going to replace it. They gave me the smallest bin in history
