Boys Swimsuit

My son was the only boy in the swimming class. He was very shy about wearing swim trunks around the girls.
When swimming starts again, do they make a full body bathing suit he can wear?

Could he wear a rash vest on top?

ShanniKey · 09/01/2021 11:49

What is a rash top?

They do, but they tend to be expensive high tech ones.

How old is he? They make full body ones for toddlers to stop them getting cold.

If older he could wear swimming trunks and a rash vest.

Like the tops surfers wear? Or those sun repellent tops little DC wear at the beach.

reefedsail · 09/01/2021 11:51

Jammers and a rash vest. However, not all swim schools allow rash vests as they can restrict movement at the shoulder, so it would be best to ask before you bought one.

ShanniKey · 09/01/2021 11:52

Thank you. That sounds like a good idea. The girls are so much taller to so this may be helpful.

ShanniKey · 09/01/2021 11:58

Thank you all for the suggestions.
I don't want him to lose interest in swimming.

He likes the water and has made progress in his swimming.

Sorry, I meant to link Proswimwear not Speedo.

You could also look at kids' Trisuits

ShanniKey · 09/01/2021 12:05

Thank you reefedsail. I think he would love that suit.
In the water with his cap on he would blend in with the girls in the class.
Would be a big boost to his confidence.

Think the boys should have the option to swim with as much coverage as the girls have.
Thank you all.

Definitely look for a rash vest. They do some cool ones for kids.

ShanniKey · 09/01/2021 12:14

Absolutely love this idea.

Why do not encourage unisex style swimmng suits for girls and boys in swim class and water sport? Girls in a learn to swim class don't need bikinis and boys don't need to wear trunks.

Thank you freezedriedromance for you suggestion. We will look at this option.

Solidaritea · 09/01/2021 12:17

It might be useful to know that trisuits usually have some padding, which means they take much longer to dry out than standard swim stuff.

ShanniKey · 09/01/2021 12:19

Thank you Solidaritea. That is helpful in making my decisions.

Probably because not many people would buy them, there wouldn’t be a demand for them, my 8 year old wouldn’t wear a swim suit, most boys would only want to wear trunks. Not everything has to be gender neutral Hmm

reefedsail · 09/01/2021 13:17

When my DS was in a swimming club most of the girls wore kneesuits.

Men were rapidly moving into full body suits at one point, but I'm pretty sure FINA banned them because they are faster than skin and hard to police or something or other.

ShanniKey · 09/01/2021 13:36

Remember when I in my tweens and early teens it was a challenge to get the right suit that fit just right.
Never thought the boys would go through this.
But maybe my problem will soon go away. My son while sitting here while vacuuming down his lunch admitted that one of the girls in the class pulled him under the water and gave him a big kiss.

Swimming is actually one of these sports where we would be complaining if it was the other way round. The boys wear next to nothing whereas girls wear near to full suits. The opposite of Beach Volleyball I guess.
