Cystitis; not feeling better?

Have had cystitis since Sunday . Was given antibiotics (coamoxiclav) on Wednesday evening . By that point had a lot of blood in my wee .

I’m still struggling with frequency, constant urge to pee, and very itchy (wondering if that might actually be a bit of thrush) . Fine during the day but then by evening/bedtime I’m back to feeling achy, hot and shivery and off to loo every ten minutes. Temp up overnight .

I don’t want to bother GP or 111 - can it take a few days for antibiotics to kick in, or is it best to ring and ask for different meds ? They’re treating it ‘blind’ as can’t give a sample because I’ve had a fever - waiting on covid results and then handle in a sample . I’m also allergic to half the antibiotics given which doesn’t help ...

I had cystitis over the New Year, got 3 days of antibiotics and the advice I was given was if it got worse or was no better after the medication, to phone 111, explain what treatment I’d already had and that I was still experiencing symptoms. The concern is that it can become a kidney infection which is a much bigger issue.

I started noticing improvement in my symptoms within a day. Hope you feel better son.

Also, shivery and higher temp was what I was told to watch out for, so I think you should be getting in touch with 111 now for further advice.

It's not unusual to feel worse at night, but I'd see how you feel over the next 24 hours. If you start to feel worse or it happens during the day you should call 111. You might need different antibiotics. If you develop a pain in the mid back area it could have gone onto your kidneys, so you'll need to seek help for that.

Thanks, that’s what I was wondering, I’ve had kidney infections a couple of times before and don’t fancy again . It doesn’t feel totally like that, just desperate urge to pee and then nothing more than a dribble (hate that word!) .

Hopefully the antibiotics start to help tomorrow - they have stopped the bleeding and some of the spasmy type pain but nothing else .

Hi sorry to hear this. I discovered d-mannose powder available on amazon, and within a few hours pain subsides. It is worth the cost, it's a lifesaver. If symptoms continue you can take until after they resolve. Have had very bad bladder pains inclyding scans in the past with recurrent cystitis in the past which became worse drinking fruit juices, cranberry or juice diets promototed candida overgrowth/yeast. without antibiotics was able to take the d-mannose and it's like a miracle worker. Have used it several times and it has not failed to clear bladder kidney back pain and-over incredible urgency pains, burning pains.
You can take this with antibiotics or without, worth a try OP. Changed my life.

The high temperature is not a good sign. I would ring again.

I am in exactly the same boat and same timescale but didn't get ABs till Thursday afternoon. Three day course which is nearly finished now - don't feel worse but don't really feel better either. No temp though. How are you feeling now OP? Did you go back to doc?
