What are ‘treat’ things people buy themselves?

It’s just been my birthday and am fortunate enough to have been given a gift card to be used in a number of places (most high street places online included). I have around £120 to spend.

Can I ask what indulgent things people like to buy for themselves as a treat to get an idea of what to buy?

PS I hope I am not coming off as insensitive as I know people are having money worries right now. I’m sorry if I offend anyone with this thread. This is a huge chunk of money for me, so even more reason I am struggling to think of ways to spend it. The gift card was bought for me with the intentions of me treating myself as it was a ‘big’ birthday, so I really don’t just want to fritter it away on the food shop, bills etc, as my parents will ask me what I chose to buy with it

Hotel chocolat!! Yes I am having some of those for sure, good idea!

I do already have a Kindle, but haven’t used it in ages.. new year’s resolution is to read more so perhaps I’ll buy a book for it!

I love the idea of something coffee related too as I am fairly obsessed!

Krazynights34 · 08/01/2021 18:33

Jewellery for sure!
I love posh pens though I don’t use them really

Snowbored · 08/01/2021 18:34

Technical clothing - just bought a merino mid-layer.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 08/01/2021 18:34

What do you think your parents would see as 'treating' you?

What makes you happy?

How are finances for things you need?

MalteserGeezee · 08/01/2021 18:37

A weighted blanket. A month of Hello Fresh or similar so I don't have to cook so much! An "investment item" like great coat/shoes/handbag to add a real touch of sophistication to an outfit!

Montsti · 08/01/2021 18:39

Candles, diffusers, cashmere bedsocks - basically most gift ideas from The White Company

EuroTrashed · 08/01/2021 18:40

There are Fantastic sales on at Missoma and Monica vinader right now - you’ll get something lovely for that budget.
Otherwise- a bottle of nice spirits (ketel one botanicals vodka in peach and orange blossom is my favourite) plus lovely antique glass to enjoy your tipple with forever after.

MacDuffsMuff · 08/01/2021 18:40

Jewellery. I am the most low maintenance person on earth normally and I don't crave luxury. But God how I love a diamond. Grin

IamChipmunk · 08/01/2021 18:44

Neom things, candles or bubble bath
Nice chocs
Expensive prosecco, I like Bottega gold for presents
Expensive vodka, didn't believe it would be nicer but it really is, skull head is a favourite

YuletidePizza · 08/01/2021 18:52

Nice bottle of gin, Neom candle, aveda haircare, perfume.

Gazelda · 08/01/2021 18:57

Some L'Occitane bath or shower oil.

Bake Off have launched a subscription box.
Spotify subscription.
Gorgeous flowers.
Some lovely glassware.

WitchesGlove · 08/01/2021 18:58

Hire a hot tub?

RubyFakeLips · 08/01/2021 18:58

I'd buy either an investment piece or things that make your every day better.

Things I've bought that I love are a le creuset dish that I use so so often. coffee machine, gorgeous candles, cashmere jumpers or jewellery.

sleepismysuperpower1 · 08/01/2021 19:02

a hotel chocolat Velvetiser. You can use it to make hot chocolate or lattes, a friend got one for christmas and it looks amazing

LopsidedWombat · 08/01/2021 19:04

Oh I love receiving vouchers! Things I've bought recently with vouchers include candles, a beautiful urban decay makeup palette, perfume, books and a jumper. Skincare products are a great idea too Smile

@bjjgirl would you mind sharing where the house coat was from please?

I have a similar amount of treat money and normally end up buying antique jewellery on eBay

MessAllOver · 08/01/2021 19:17

I'd spend the money on one of those expensive indoor herb gardens. I managed to kill off most of my herbs over the winter and am really missing having fresh herbs for cooking and cocktails!

Other than that, some really warm cashmere gloves and a really warm hat. It's going to be a miserable winter.

You probably have this already, but hot drink holder for the side of the buggy? And nice leak-proof thermos/travel mug.

QueenOfCakeandCoffee · 08/01/2021 19:19

@peanacat hot numbers coffee is amazing

MrsGrindah · 08/01/2021 19:23

This is what a I would spend it on
A fantastic pair of jeans
New coat
A lovely pendant
Penhaligons perfume
Books..10 ish new hardbacks!
Theatre tickets
Silk pyjamas

I definitely wouldn’t spend it on the house

MrsGrindah · 08/01/2021 19:23

By the way those are different options.. I don’t think 120 quid would cover it all!

peanacat · 08/01/2021 19:46

Wow you are all fab! I’m coming up with a list of things from what you’ve all suggested. I’ve decided I would like (and reckon my parents would see as a treat) to have a number of things rather than one big splurge. Though tbf I do like the sound of hiring a hot tub! Might do that for DH bday in a month or so, so thanks for that idea. Also the velvetiser looks amazing I agree, but I do already have a coffee machine as it was my ‘giving birth’ present (ludicrous idea to gift for that - but I of course accepted!)
So far I am thinking and researching:

Posh chocs, set of silver earrings, some fancy hair care, some posh coffee and syrups and, if I can stretch to it, cashmere socks!

You’re all the best Wine

Saville row, my aunt had it made for me, but I'm sure there's places that sell them
