I was only my way to work, when I saw something out of the corner of my eye.

Thought it was a cat but no! It was a very happy looking badger snuffling around for food.

I was so excited because it was the first (live) badger I’ve seen!

I see them frequently when out running (I love in a city). They're v odd looking creatures- sort of like an enormous box of cornflakes on legs, or an ambling coffee table.

I live in a city and have never seen one

Maybe if I love in a city I'll see one? 😂

No seriously, I am so jealous, I will be jumping for joy if I ever see one.

Grin Well, I love here too!

Erm- I do go out running at 5am...so maybe that's where you're going wrong?
I got chased by a fox too... 🦊

You're lucky - I still haven't seen a live badger in the wild. I do however see lots of dead ones by the side of the road.

ChasedByFox · 09/01/2021 17:38

They (badgers) also make the most unbelievable snorty-squealy kind of noise of you scare them! by lumbering past them in the dark, puffing and panting

I’ve only seen live badgers once. Years ago in Devon on a campsite at about 3am. They were in the carpark raiding the dustbins. Two adults and 3 or 4 younger ones. I sat for 30 mins and watched them. The youngsters were chasing each other and playing and wrestling inbetween knocking the bin over. Sadly I didn’t have my phone on me but it was amazing!

Ooh, I would try that but it's too rough round here.

Just reading up on them and apparently they are being seen in back gardens ...I don't have a garden but mum does.

My sister got chased by a fox once, i just nod hello and they look at me like I'm mad.

LBOCS2 · 09/01/2021 17:50

an ambling coffee table.

Yes! That's exactly it. They're broad and ambly.

In the first lockdown I was having an appropriately distanced outdoor drinky in my friend's front garden at dusk and a young looking badger wandered past us. I think we were all equally as surprised!

Our old next door neighbour used to have an entire family of badgers who came to be fed in her garden. We live in Greater London.

TwoHundredThousandTimes · 09/01/2021 17:51

Oh i love love love badgers. :)

We have a set underneath our compost heap. had it for years. Not used the compost heap for years either as it is now the dedicated badger set. :)

3 badgers this year. They make a heck of a noise. I have bad insomnia and so sometimes sit outside and they come quite close at times.

CherryRoulade · 09/01/2021 17:54

Nightmare beasts. Dent cars, smell atrocious when rotting on a roadside, killed our cat, vicious creatures best left undisturbed.

Iheartsheep · 09/01/2021 17:54

Iv never seen a badger but a fox ran out in front of ds and I in the woods in the first lockdown and I was as excited as you are about the badger. It was so quick that my dh and dd who were walking behind us didn't even see it.

TwoHundredThousandTimes · 09/01/2021 17:56

I saw a weasel once when walking along a bridlepath.

I was SO delighted!

OhWhyNot · 09/01/2021 17:56

My ex’s parents would have badgers come and feed off their walnut tree and their neighbours used to feed them every night. People would go to their house to watch the badgers come up to the french windows and wait for their food It was the local badger watch Grin It was lovely

They are quite noisy (especially when having adult fun)

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 09/01/2021 17:59

They regularly get into my food waste bin here , live in a town but we have a lot of them around here.

Shannith · 09/01/2021 18:00

I've only seen a dead one round these here parts. But you've just reminded me I had a boyfriend at university whose parents lived in the sticks and his mum fed the badgers.

The used to COME RUNNING when she called and went out with their food. They are very loud when they are excited.

And they had pet sheep.

I stayed with him about a year too long and reader. I did not marry him because he was a twat.

But the badgers/sheep got him laid longer than he technically should have been I like to think he'd thank them if he knew.

ChickyNuggies · 09/01/2021 18:02

You are all government plants.

Badgers are fake news. They don't exist. Nobody has ever seen a live one and the government plant dead ones occasionally so you don't get suspicious.

BADGERS ARE FAKE.

AcornAutumn · 09/01/2021 18:04

Two "I have bad insomnia and so sometimes sit outside and they come quite close at times."

I have bad insomnia and all I can do is listen to traffic! This sounds brilliant!

One day I will live somewhere I can feed badgers. Do you think Estate Agents are often asked for good locations for badgers? 😂

TwoHundredThousandTimes · 09/01/2021 18:08

Acorn I hope so much that you do live somewhere with badgers. :)

Watching ours has given me alot of pleasure in some hard times.

Sosigsandwich · 09/01/2021 18:16

How amazing! I would love to see one in real life 😍
