Clearing a laptop to donate

Okki · 08/01/2021 10:23

I am not remotely technical. I have a laptop that I'd like to donate to a school for use in homeschooling.

Is it possible for me to clear it completely so it's safe? I have a feeling it's not as simple as restore to factory settings like with an iPhone. Or is it?

Thanks.

Firstly remove anything you want to keep, then you can format the hard disk. Might be worth calling the local school as I suspect they will have an it tech person who can properly talk you through the best way for them.

Would that keep the operating system and whatever programs originally came on the laptop? I will speak to a tech person but wanted to have a vague idea of what they'd be talking about Grin

Not helpful at all but I wonder this too!! I have an old laptop which needs to go in the bin (ancient, slow and would be no use to anyone) but I worry about clearing it properly. So instead it lounges behind my sofa!!
