How do you bath when you are on your period?

isitjustifyable · 07/01/2021 17:35

My family home had a separate shower unit, and my whole life I used that. I moved out a few years ago and we put a shower unit in because I hate baths.

My shower has broke, and the time has come 🤣

Is there a method? I bleed so heavily there seems no logical way of doing this. (There is no shower attachment in the bath)

Just after any obvious (or not so obvious) advice please!

I Use a menstrual cup.

@ShalomToYouJackie

What a weird post
No not weird. If you don’t know, you don’t know! Glad OP felt able to ask. Plenty of good answers 🙂
bellagogosdead · 07/01/2021 18:49

I have never had a problem, but as you do, maybe you could get an attachment to put on the bath taps? here

Bucket and jug in the bath. Fill the bucket up, use the jug to collect water and wash over yourself. Usually 2/3 buckets will do the same as a shower. This is an old fashioned indian way. Most indian households still bathe like this to save water and it's a traditional thing.

@isitjustifyable

Sorry to hijack OP but what brand of period pants do you wear as you are heavy? I have been looking into them but most reviews say aren't suitable for a heavy flow.

isitjustifyable · 07/01/2021 18:57

@dingoesatemybaby hi, I use these
www.modibodi.co.uk/collections/underpants/products/sensual-hi-waist-bikini-heavy-overnight

I use them day time and night time, really like them, although washing them is a pain. Never had any leaks and my periods are incredibly heavy

I have incredibly heavy periods (slightly lessened now I am taking tranexamic acid), and a retroverted uterus and have never bled in the bath. I usually have a wodge of toilet roll ready for when I stand up to get out.

DayBath · 07/01/2021 19:05

Just bleed into the water, it's not poisonous you know, it's just a bit of blood! Have a nice soak to soothe your aches and pains and then if you're particularly fussy you could use a jug to rinse your body standing up with clean water. I've never bothered though, it's so diluted you're getting into realms of homeopathy, even with a heavy flow!! Hair washed in the sink.

People are so squeamish about this stuff I really don't understand it. Baths are full of crap you've washed off your body, it's sort of a design flaw if you're a germophobe but it's just the way they work.

isitjustifyable · 07/01/2021 19:05

Thanks everyone who isn't/ never has/ tells me I won't and shouldn't and can't. But I actually am bleeding in the bath.

OP posts:
isitjustifyable · 07/01/2021 19:07

@DayBath my water is literally bright red and lots of blood. I think it's ok for me to not want to sit in that

OP posts:
isitjustifyable · 07/01/2021 19:08

*clots of blood

Notnownotneverever · 07/01/2021 19:12

I bathe as normal and find it helps with cramps too. But I generally find I don’t bleed as I lie down in the bath but I will have a gush when stand up so then need to squat briefly and wash off again. I also have a tampon to the side of the bath to insert as soon as I get out when heavy.

AlwaysLatte · 07/01/2021 19:13

I've never bled in water for some reason.

Meh, I've sat in dark red baths before. I have a very heavy flow and it just doesn't bother me. When you're ready to get out have a quick rinse off with a jug from the tap, job done. You still get the benefit of a nice warm soak that way.

isitjustifyable · 07/01/2021 19:18

@DayBath I'm not at all squeamish, but would not feel too clean this way. Also breastfeeding and wouldn't like to see my DS feeding after that

OP posts:
LindaEllen · 07/01/2021 19:22

Bathe as normal, tampon ready to pop in just as you're getting out. All good!

mamaoffourdc · 07/01/2021 19:29

Could you buy a plastic shower attachment to go over your bath taps?

Sunshineandflipflops · 07/01/2021 19:29

I don’t get why people don’t wear a tampon in the bath but then put one in after?!
Genuinely curious.
I use a moon cup so not a problem but before that I just used a tampon, as I would any other time.

Redwinestillfine · 07/01/2021 19:35

Some people don't wear tampons so would rather just have the bath, others do so bleeding isn't an issue, you just need to find out what suits you

Serena1977 · 07/01/2021 20:26

I wash my upper body as soon as I get in, wash hair straightaway, rinse hair from tap. I use a plastic jug to rinse my legs from the tap when I stand up sometimes there may be a leakage, gravity and all and use a black hand towel that I scrunch up and wedge in between my legs, waddle to the bedroom quickly dry my legs and put on pants and pad. Dry the rest of me. Hand towel used for said purpose, washed frequently on 60 then put away till next time.

wtf Confused did you forget the bit wear he floated about in that stuff for 9 months? Did you come out of you perfectly clean like on the tv?

isitjustifyable · 08/01/2021 06:24

@Cocopogo Yes but he is now 18 months so doesn't feel right

OP posts:
WinstonWolf · 08/01/2021 06:33

When I read the replies yesterday all saying "I don't bleed in the bath" I was starting to wonder if I had some sort of freaky vag Confused

I too end up with red water and clots floating about if I try to bathe whilst on my period. I would honestly just buy one of those hose attachments for the tap, or use a jug.

isitjustifyable · 08/01/2021 06:42

@WinstonWolf haha that made me laugh. Me too!

I have a single tap and it's square so it's hard to find one that fits, I have tried before because I am a home hairdresser and needed one for that. A jug will have to do!

OP posts:
redcandlelight · 08/01/2021 07:04

when our heating broke last winter I took a bucket bath in the tub.
fill bucket with warm water.
use a jug to wet body& hair
lather hair&body with soap/shampoo
rinse hair with jug
tip the rest of the bucket over whole body.

I'm similar to op, can't wear tampons or cups and bleed a lot on the first day. the bath would get very bloody.
