How do you bath when you are on your period?

isitjustifyable · 07/01/2021 17:35

My family home had a separate shower unit, and my whole life I used that. I moved out a few years ago and we put a shower unit in because I hate baths.

My shower has broke, and the time has come 🤣

Is there a method? I bleed so heavily there seems no logical way of doing this. (There is no shower attachment in the bath)

Just after any obvious (or not so obvious) advice please!

Put in clean tampon, bath, dry off and change tampon.

combatbarbie · 07/01/2021 18:22

I don't bleed when I'm in water.... I have been known to soak for hours to get away from dealing with heavy flow mess

CantBeAssed · 07/01/2021 18:25

Water pressure in bath stems flow of blood, same as swimming pool..

What a bizarre question? Have you really never had a bath on your period? Ever?

ShalomToYouJackie · 07/01/2021 18:29

What a weird post

IEat · 07/01/2021 18:30

Make sure you check when the water has drained that there’s no blood in the tub, sometimes they’ll be a little. Nothing to worry about but definitely not what you want others to see!

ShalomToYouJackie · 07/01/2021 18:30

Why are womem sharing stories of having their periods in the bath with a stranger, we have no idea who the poster is Confused

Grooticle · 07/01/2021 18:31

One of the many joys of mumsnet is that you can ask questions about anything you please, however odd they may seem to others. Let’s remember that many women are still raised with stigma around periods and have never really had a community of women to discuss them with. It’s a bit mean to criticise somebody for asking a question.

CaraDuneRedux · 07/01/2021 18:32

Used to have heavy periods , a retroverted uterus (think of it like a floppy balloon which gradually fills until it gets to a certain point, then it pops up into place and you flood - v annoying) and no shower. This was my technique.

2" water in the bath, squat, bear down and see how much blood and clots I could pass, rinse off, empty bath and refill to a decent level then hope for a nice relaxing bath.

TBF there's not really been any "stories" shared.
Redwinestillfine · 07/01/2021 18:35

Err just get in the bath?

CrustyChrimbo · 07/01/2021 18:36

I think it's a valid question! Our shower broke during the first lockdown so I had to have baths for 2 months. When I had my period I would get in the empty tub and do a quick wash of my bits, let that drain then fill the tub and bathe as normal. I didn't like the thought of sitting in period-y water.

Sparrowfeeder · 07/01/2021 18:36

The pressure of the water stops the flow so not an issue!

IDontDrinkTea · 07/01/2021 18:36

As long as you’re not bathing with sharks I don’t see an issue with just, ya know... climbing into the water?!

isitjustifyable · 07/01/2021 18:36

I understand some people think this is a weird post and I am not worried about that.

I have had 2 baths so far and both have been absolutely flooded with blood.

I am going to have to wear a tampon I guess 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thanks for the helpful replies.

@CrustyChrimbo good idea, thank you

I can't say I've ever given it much thought... I love a bath when I'm on my period. I just get in as normal. It eases period cramps and back pain. I'd never think to wear tampon.

TheBottleIsFullofHappiness · 07/01/2021 18:39

Bath as normal, I've only once bled into the bath and that was post birth so excusable.

inappropriateraspberry · 07/01/2021 18:40

I find it doesn't bleed out into the water when I have a bath. Like others, very rarely a small clot may escape but never have an issue.

itsgettingweird · 07/01/2021 18:41

Stand up in the bath and dry yourself in it as the water drains. I use to bleed a lot after a bath. Then pad and pants before daring to walk anywhere?!

CaraDuneRedux · 07/01/2021 18:41

Alas, no-one told my vag and uterus that. Grin
Bessica1970 · 07/01/2021 18:41

I feel your pain - My water is always pink when I get out Blush if I need to wash my hair I keep a tampon in until it’s done, but then remove it for the rest of the bath to get a really good clean. Those of you who don’t bleed in water are lucky - it’s not universal!

dodgem · 07/01/2021 18:42

Some people go swimming without tampons in 😬

steppemum · 07/01/2021 18:42

the water pressure stops the flow

Are yes that famouse old chestnut, rolled out by people who don't have heavy periods.

My experience without tampon.
Sit in bath, lovely.
Stand up to get out, huge red bloody gush all down my legs, or, on a good day, step out wrap in towel and then when trying to dry off, blood all over towel.
There just isn't time to get form horizontal in water to dry and reinserting tampon without a load of blood in between. The longer you soak the more blood accumulates.

isitjustifyable · 07/01/2021 18:43

I have bled so much in the bath... I don't think this works for me 🤷🏼‍♀️
Also I use period knickers not tampons, so I have blood over my bits that will be washed off into the water. And then I'm sitting in that water.

Was just wondering if this is the same for everyone
