Hello,

I need to order a new tablet to help with home-learning for more than one child. We currently have an ipad mini which is okay but I find a little user-unfriendly. I have a Samsung Galaxy phone, so am possibly more biased that way?

I am looking at the 2020 ipad and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Lite - similar prices and both seem to have great reviews. Am leaning towards the Samsung, but may I have your thoughts on these please?

Thanks is advance.

We bought DD(10) the Samsung Galaxy 6 Lite for Christmas. She wanted something for digital artwork and scratch. So far it has been great for both, she loves it. The Samsung comes with the stylus whereas you have to by the iPen separately for the iPad I think? Which I think makes it cheaper?

We also bought a bullet proof case from Amazon that is great.

We are an android family rather than apple so it made sense for us.

Thanks, that’s good to hear. The pen looks really useful for both myself and the kids. I think I basically want lots of responses like yours to affirm my choice! 😂

I will get such a case also.

I have just treated myself to the S6 as an upgrade from the S2 and just learning to use the stylus. I think it is an apple vs android issue. I have a Samsung phone so much prefer this. My dd is an apple lover and prefers her iPhone and I ipad.

TabletHelpPlease · 07/01/2021 15:02

Thanks, hopefully that is the case and I will love it!

If no-one mentions terrible issues with the S6, I will go with that.

I’m an Apple user so will always lean towards Apple products. I find I can’t use android tablets or phones at all. Not user friendly at all.

If you’re used to an android, get that.

IHaveBrilloHair · 07/01/2021 15:11

I'm an Android user and have always had had Galaxys, phones and tablets.
If that's what you know, then get it.

Mapletreelane · 07/01/2021 15:23

If you're set up for android and Samsung go Samsung. Far prefer flexibility of Android to Apple monopoly. Daughter has Samsung galaxy tablet and it is beautiful. (Can't remember model but it is lovely to use. So much easier than my old ipad) x

I bought a Samsung galaxy tablet two years ago. I’ve hated it every time I’ve used it, and finally given up and am waiting delivery of an iPad.

It’s slow, not user friendly, the battery life is crap, and every time I do anything, it wants to give me eight pop ups first (from Samsung, not browser ads). I had a galaxy phone before and was perfectly happy with it, not sure why the tablet is so awful.

I bought a Samsung tablet to replace my ipad mini. I found the samsung tablet easier to use than the ipad mini. However I always had samsung phones.

I am firmly in Team Ipad here - actually doing written notes on my iPad Pro now and the kids have them too... they have chromebooks for home learning but still default to grabbing their iPad and pencil to complete worksheets and send them back into school to mark.

I think you're either Apple or Android - I was Android for years but trialled Apple and never went back.

BonnesVacances · 07/01/2021 15:39

I have an iPad but bought DD the Samsung tablet and pen as she doesn't like Apple products. She's happy with it afaik. Other than the fact that it doesn't have Inkscape.

PlanDeRaccordement · 07/01/2021 15:41

I prefer iPad myself. They last forever too.

Kndg · 07/01/2021 15:45

I have the Ipad Pro which I think is OK.
Ds12 got the Samsung Galaxy S6 with the pen as part of his Christmas presents, he loves it and much prefers it to his Ipad (2 years old.)

Thanks for all the opinions and experiences shared. I have gone ahead and ordered the Samsung, so will try to remember to report back here in a few weeks.

@TabletHelpPlease how did you get on?

I was wondering which is better for Dow loading games for DS.

derryrose1980 · 30/07/2022 13:50

Get a good screen protector. My son dropped my new Samsung tablet onto tiled floor and smashed it. Took it to a repair shop and ended up putting a new screen on an old Ipad of my mums as it was going to cost £200 to replace the Samsung screen versus less than £100 for Ipad. I was gutted as I loved the Samsung and the pen for it but was nearly the cost I had paid for it 6 weeks earlier.

Palg68 · 30/07/2022 21:38

@derryrose1980 thanks I will do. I must be out of touch because I was shocked at some of the prices that Samsung tablets cost! I've been looking at the S6 and the Ipad mini is quite nice. It's mainly for DS to play games on. Which Samsung did you buy?
