Job interview WWYD?

WhatAreWordsWorth · 07/01/2021 11:38

I had a job interview just before Christmas. It seemed to go very well. I also really want the job.

The interviewer gave me some really positive feedback and said that they’d had some very strong candidates, and included me in that.

He also said that he had a busy few weeks coming up plus the Christmas break etc, and it was unlikely he’d get back to me until after the New Year with next steps.

I’ve still not heard anything - would it be ok to follow up now? I’m aware of the fact that he said I shouldn’t expect any immediate communication, but I was hoping to have heard something by now. I want to play it right as I also don’t want to appear too impatient.

WWYD?

I would definitely contact them if I were you. Good luck!

You can ask when they anticipate they'll be able to get back to you. Any chance they're affected by this lockdown?

WhatAreWordsWorth · 07/01/2021 11:59

Thanks both - I might drop them an email this afternoon to see where things are.

They shouldn’t be too affected by the lockdown as far as I’m aware.

I think I'd email next week

Twickerhun · 07/01/2021 12:02

Would you email a recruitment person or the line manager? If recruitment I would say message away just to ask for an idea of when you may hear. Of the manager maybe hold off until Monday?

FrogsSpawnofSanta · 07/01/2021 12:04

I'd wait until next week. If the manager has been on holiday over Christmas and New Year then they are potentially trying to catch up with stuff.

WhatAreWordsWorth · 07/01/2021 12:10

Thanks all - I’ve only dealt with one person throughout the process (they would be my manager if I got the job).

What you’ve said makes sense, I might wait til Monday. It’s a fine balance between not wanting to seem impatient, but also wanting to seem keen Grin

It’s only been a couple of working days and all companies are going through the mill right now. It’s awful to wait so you have my sympathy.

I hadn’t even thought of it like this. The interview was over 2 weeks ago now which feels like a lifetime ago, especially with the weird Christmas and NY period in between.

But you’re right, it’s only actually been 5-6 working days which doesn’t seem like much!

I agree - that's why I asked about the effect of lockdown. Also at this time of year people do take holiday so it may be that internal discussions can't take place.
