Best rear facing car seat for older / larger toddlers

My toddler is over 90 cm and not yet 2 years old so the maxi cosi Pearl I size is too cramped now. I've asked maxi cosi who confirmed that once he gets to 97cm to turn him forward facing but I'm not happy about doing that so I need to buy a new car seat.

Please can I have your recommendations.

I can’t remember what we had but the biggest recommendation I can give is talk to the amazing people at the InCar Safety Centre. They found us a seat that kept us RFing until 4.

I need to order online so can't really go anywhere..

We've got the Joie Stages which states that they should be turned to forward facing from 18kg, rather than at a certain height so would depend on how much your DC weighs. It can be used until age 7 once it's turned round.

We have the Axkid Minikid which is Swedish Plus tested and auto adjusts the straps to the appropriate height when you tighten the strap at the crotch. Rear facing up to 25kg, our son is about to turn 5 and still fits comfortably despite being in the 90% height / weight percentile in the red book.

For older toddlers a 25KG seat would be better, and most last up to 125cm (ish). Do you have a budget?

Low budget under £250
Britax two way elite
Axkid move
Britax MaxWay

Middle budget £250-300
Britax multi tech
BeSafe izi plus
Diono radian 5
Avionaut sky

High budget £300+
Axkid MiniKid
Britax MaxWay plus
Klippan Century
Klippan Opti-129–this one actually goes up to 32kg so very long lasting, although it does have a height limit of 125cm which is a bit Hmm

Axkid one—very expensive at £600 and only up to 23kg

We use the axkid minikid with a 6 year old!

Scottishskifun · 06/01/2021 23:39

Another vote for axkid mini kid we also have a tall toddler. You sometimes find deals we got one for £250 as last years colours!

Britax Two Way Elite

@Ohug - call them. They will talk through all your options based on your car, budget, and what kind of time scale you see yourself rear facing.

ArseWipesLemonade · 07/01/2021 08:12

Another vote for the In Car Safety Centre. Look online/call them.

We ended up with the Britax Two Way Elite.
