Nicola Sturgeon has said it would not be classed as essential travel and therefore illegal. Is it wrong that I am overly-invested in wondering how this would play out legally? He is still president until the following day, so, if he were to land, would the UK/Scottish government be able to stop him passing through security and heading down to one of his golf courses? Would the police pass him a fine?
I've had quite a shitty day (haven't we all!!) so I'm finding this all quite distracting and fascinating to think about.

I'm getting visions of orange bare knees Grin.

Guess he is there to seek asylum, you'll be stuck with him.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 06/01/2021 15:36

Maybe it's not him who's coming - maybe it's Melania escaping to the place where he'd be least likely to look for her and that's why they're firing up the 757! She's going to hide out in the central belt somewhere. I would love to see Nicola shout at her on the tarmac too.

I also love the idea that, if trump does come on air force one, he could just be refuelled in mid-air forever as Prestwick refuse him permission to land. He could fossilize in his seat as they circuit Mull for the 11,000th time Grin

@RaspberryCoulis

Oh and the US is unusual in that they don't allow dual citizenship, so if you naturalize you have to renounce all links and loyalty to your previous country, and swear allegiance to the US.

Given that his mother did that before he was born, The Donald was born in America, to an American mother and an American father. He's American.

Technically, you do indeed swear allegiance to the US but you can still keep your foreign nationality.

My father was a Mexican Citizen but he became a naturalized US Citizen and was able to keep his Mexican passport & citizenship.
My husband is a UK Citizen and is going through the process to become a naturalized US Citizen and he will be allowed to keep his UK passport and citizenship.

My children are US/ UKC's so they arrive in the US on their US passports and use their UK passports when they arrive in the UK. That is the same for naturalized USC's.

So, the Donald could actually arrive in Prestwick and could carry a UK passport because his mother was a British citizen and technically, he would be a UKC "coming home" who are the only ones allowed to travel to the UK, somewhat. If I remember correctly, he would just have to quarantine. Obviously, this all depends on whether he actually holds a UK passport.

If he had a passport, then he would be the only one to disembark onto Scottish soil so no aides or anyone else and no golf!

Still, the guy is an idiot and childish to even contemplate missing the inauguration.

Er, not at all.

My DB is a naturalised US, UK and Italian citizen.

Indeed - I am British by birth, and American by naturalisation, and in the process of applying for a third EU citizenship.

My children are all dual nationals.

DH is American by birth, but about 20 years ago claimed British citizenship through his mother (born in the UK, also naturalised as an American). He also has a random third nationality that he doesn't use.

The Donald could apply for a UK passport if he chose, but I don't think he has done so.

Of course if he did it now he'd have to declare any convictions - he'd better be quick eh? Grin

This thread has given me a much needed giggle.

I'd love Nicola to go all Janey Godley on him, I'd pay money to see that 😂

Joking apart, he's a despicable person and we don't want him here in Scotland, or we could build a wall made of Irn
Bru cans, since he loves it so much he banned it from his Menie resort up here

Maybe she's gonna apply for refugee status Grin

@AngelicaElizaAndPeggy

Nicola and Trump facing off across the tarmac at Prestwick would be an absolute popcorn fest, surely.

I'd hope she'd go the full Jane Godley on him:

'Yous were f*+#n telt tae stay in your aen hoose!'

OMG this has me laughing so hard. I love it.
HistoriaTrixie · 06/01/2021 16:48

Maybe Interpol will be waiting at the bottom of the steps to arrest him, since Iran has taken out a Red Notice.

BaublesAndBawbags · 06/01/2021 16:57

He's flying over with this truly terrific plan to build a wall, a wonderful wall, the very best kind of wall, right across the bottom of Scotland. No one said they could do it, everyone said noooo, it can't be done, but he spoke with the best people, ground-breaking wall scientists, and he's going to help his friend Nicole deal with her security issues.

I would hazard a guess that Trump won’t be entitled to the use of AF1 from the moment Biden is inaugurated. That being the case, if he WAS in it and they were airborne at that point, could they hoof him out of an emergency exit? 🤔

DGRossetti · 06/01/2021 18:03

The New York State prosecutor has an appointment with Trump the second he's no longer POTUS, I believe. Something about 67 sealed indictments.

TotalEclipseOfTheHeartAndSoul · 06/01/2021 23:15

This thread has really made me laugh after a rubbish day at work, thank you all! Can you imagine him turning up in Prestwick, I honestly wouldn't be surprised. Janey Godley would be in her element with new videos!
