Would jury service make me a Key Worker?

I am due to complete jury service in mid-Jan. I haven’t had it confirmed yet but I know courts are staying open so I presume it will be going ahead.

Do you think my two primary aged DC would be able to go to school for those two weeks? I’ve been looking at the guidance and it does mention “those essential to the running of the justice system”. Jury service is mandatory so I was kind of hoping they could go in rather than me sort some other childcare bubble? Any thoughts? Thanks

Yes, it does make you a key worker for the period of your jury service. Will try to find a link confirming!

Yes you would be classed as a key worker. Sorry I don’t have a link but I work in the criminal justice system and we had an email round this morning confirming jury service and most of the others working in CJS are classed as keyworkers

@IrenetheQuaint a link would be amazing! I’ve been Googling but not found much. Thank you!

Yes.

It's critical workers and public duties are included.

But only whilst your actually on the jury!

@IrenetheQuaint thanks for the link. The school have sent a Key Worker form out so I’m going to fill it in now.

Even if you are covered by being classed as a key worker don't assume that the hours the school will offer will be sufficient. Most aren't doing wrap around care at the moment. If you'd need it then speak to the jury service team - they will probably let you defer it
