What homeschooling kit do I need?

I'm biting the bullet and buying them their own stuff. Sick of the kids faffing with my laptop!

I have all the workbooks and crafting and stationery stuff but I need the tech.

I'm not a very techy person and I don't want to spend a fortune (happy to part with a few hundred). I need to be able to send the homework in for marking in the easiest possible way at the end of the week.

Tell me what I need!!!!! Grin

Nobody? I'm scouring online but I've no idea what a chrome oil is or a notebook or a tablet....maybe that's a better option.

Hmm 🤔

What platform does your school use?
How old are your kids? What's your budget?
We ask our children to submit photos of work so a tablet is useful for this. My kid uses Google classroom and does a lot of typing so he uses the laptop. Maybe ask the school what they would recommend?

I don't think they sell infinite patience in Currys do they? Wink

They don't sell laptops either it seems!

Can't get my hands on anything...I'll just ring them in the morning I suppose and hope for the best.

I had a moment of weakness and bought a laminator complete with paper guillotine and edge softener (for the little one)

My two use their laptops as they're more versatile for both watching the videos, signing in to live groups (bigger screen than their tablets) and typing is easier on it. They both prefer using the laptops over their iPads. They are Lenovo which we got from John Lewis about a year ago, for about £450 is if I remember correctly. We've had no issues with them at all.
Other kit we've been using a lot is the printer and lots of paper and ink! And we bought folding tables from Habitat so that they can work in different places - currently DS12 is set up in the snug and DS10 in the dining room.

Mine have MacBook Airs provided by school, but DS actually finds an iPad easier to use. He has an Apple Pencil and he uses Notability.

If you want an OK laptop I'd go to John Lewis and get something around £500 with 8Gb of RAM and 256Gb SSD storage.

I'd also recommend a B&W laser printer rather than an inkjet. They're fast and reliable and not horribly expensive to run.
