What can I do with 300ml of double cream that's NOT truffles?

As much as I love truffles, I don't have any suitable chocolate and I'm not going to the shop just for chocolate with the kids in tow. What can I do with it?

Butter? Or whip and freeze.

A super creamy version of pasta carbonara!

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 05/01/2021 10:45

Whip it and put it on hot chocolate.
Make scones.
Make apple pie/crumble/strudel and eat with lashings of cream.
eat it with a spoon

If you've got eggs you could make meringues - sandwich together with whipped cream. Fairy cakes with whipped cream. Anything with whipped cream tbh

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 05/01/2021 10:45

gratin dauphinois? Or custard to go on a crumble?

Eminybob · 05/01/2021 10:45

Dauphinois potatoes with you dinner

sleepismysuperpower1 · 05/01/2021 10:46

apple cake? (It does specify sour apples in the recipe but I have just used regular apples from the fruit bowl and it turns out fine)

Clafoutis? Beat it with 4 eggs, 60g plain flour, 100g sugar. Pour over whatever berries you have and bake in the oven for 45 minutes at 190C (170C fan).

Lemon posset, lux rice pudding or semolina, or just add it to porridge at breakfast?

BaronessBomburst · 05/01/2021 10:47

Freeze it (in smaller portions) and add to pasta dishes, mashed potato, coffee etc as required.

ineedaholidaynow · 05/01/2021 10:49

I make lemon meringue ice cream, add lemon juice, lemon curd and crumbled up meringues and pop it into the freezer. Lush!

MistleTOEboughski · 05/01/2021 10:49

Trifle

LooseMooseHoose · 05/01/2021 10:50

Chicken supreme! Retro but so so tasty. And uses a lot of cream.

LooseMooseHoose · 05/01/2021 10:52

Nigel Slater's sausage pasta is a good one too, although we halve the cream in the recipe.

wowfudge · 05/01/2021 10:53

If you've got a can of condensed milk you can make ice cream just by whisking the two together.

Lockdownlovernotfromliverpool · 05/01/2021 10:53

Add some chopped onion to a pan of frozen peas. Cover in cream and boil until the onions are cooked...

Hot chocolate
Pour on chopped or sliced fruit, fruit salad, Banana Split, Knickerbocker Glory, fruit crumble, left over Christmas cake or pudding or warmed mince pies.

Creme brulee
Dauphinoise potatoes
Cream of mushroom soup (any creamy soup)
Carbonara (any creamy pasta sauce)

BarbaraofSeville · 05/01/2021 10:57

If you're worried about it going past the use by date, don't be. It'll be fine for at least a week or two yet, so get chocolate next time you go to a shop.

I'd mix it with melted chocolate (cheap 30 pence dark is fine) and a splash of booze to just make chocolate dessert pots. Less fiddly than truffles.

Egghead68 · 05/01/2021 10:58

Homemade ice-cream. Mix it up, add jam to taste (slightly sweeter than you want it as frozen food tastes less sweet) and freeze. That’s it. Makes quite a fatty ice-cream but nice in small quantities.
