DS age 9 with giant feet, help!

Does anyone happen to know about shoe sizes?

DS is age 9 with massive feet and he's just told me his trainers don't fit nor do his school shoes...he says they do but has form for not realising until they're really tight. They're both a 4 1/2 and only a few months old so I hadn't thought to check sooner.

I've used the Startrite measuring gauge and he is coming out as an L 5.5 H or L6G and there are none available on their website nor Clarke's.

I've measured my feet and I'm an L6.5G and I usually wear a ladies 6 1/5 or 7 wide fit.

Does that mean he can just switch to a standard men's size 6 now? I assume they're wider than women's fit? If so, any recommendations for a suitable online shop?

Thank you to anyone who bothers to read this very boring question!

My DD’s feet stopped growing in year 6. Size 5 was her lot! It’s a relief as then you know shoes you buy will last a long time!

My DS has huge feet - size 9.5H age 11 and he wears Rhino (Start Rite) velcro shoes to school. This is the biggest size they go up to though!

RedskyAtnight · 04/01/2021 19:45

DD's feet haven't grown since Year 5.
My own feet stopped growing just after I was 10.

Boys on the other hand ...

DD was a size 7 at 9 and a size 8 at 10 and then her feet never grew again. Still an 8 at 17. She is also not talk 5ft 2inches.

CornedBeef451 · 04/01/2021 21:16

His feet look a bit like flippers on his skinny little legs!

After all that fuss it seems I needn't have bothered, no school til at least February. I'm still hoping to get free replacement school shoes before then though.

Good luck homeschooling again everyone!

My 11 year old boy has wide big feet. He's a 5.5H (sometimes a 6). For school shoes I get him Startrite Rhino. Can find them on eBay brand new £29.99.

Clymene · 04/01/2021 21:32

I get shoes from Treads. They have an insole you can take out so they last a bit longer

notacooldad · 04/01/2021 21:35

I can't believe his feet are nearly the same size as mine at age 9, they're growing incredibly quickly and he's only average height
My DS was men's size 10 at that age and it was bloody hard work! He is an adult now and his final size is 12 which he became at around 13 or 14. DS isn't particular tall. He stopped growing at 15 at 6ft 4.
DS2 has been a man's 8 since he was 12. Funny how it goes!

Needhelp101 · 04/01/2021 21:43

OP, do what I do and buy him some cool shoes, then you can steal them and wear them yourself ( my 10 year old and I both wear a 7) 😉

Fennelandlovage · 04/01/2021 21:44

John Lewis have kids shoes up to size 8 girls and size 9 boys as far as I know. My two both have big but slim feet so larger kids shoes have been my saving grace so far as adult styles are much much wider.

CornedBeef451 · 04/01/2021 23:42

@Needhelp101 I was eyeing up some of the shoes for me, give him another couple of months and we can share.

It's funny how they all grow so differently.

We're both quite short so I can't imagine he'll be tall, the red book predicted 5'7" although he does look a bit like a puppy with giant paws at the moment.

He also has luxuriously thick, long hair and incredibly fast growing nails. Perhaps he's destined to be a werewolf.

I bought my Dd some simpsons vans for Christmas purely so I could pinch them when she out grows them

Nat6999 · 05/01/2021 00:29

Ds was in size 9HH fitting age 10/11, he is in size 12/13 HH fitting depending on where we buy from now age nearly 17, he jumped from size 9 to size 11, had over a year at size 9, had his feet measured at still size 9 & then 2 months later moaned his feet hurt, had them measured again, size 11. Thank god sixth formers don't wear uniform so he can wear trainers, saves me a fortune.

CornedBeef451 · 05/01/2021 14:00

Breaking news, the men's size 6 trainers fit!

I've booked both DCs in for a fitting at Clarke's at the end of half term so at least DS will use the replacement shoes offer, assuming we're not in Tier 42 by then and shoe shops are open.

Thanks everyone, next time he needs school shoes I'll check out all the recommendations.

To have a werewolf for a son would be pretty cool, though :)

CornedBeef451 · 05/01/2021 16:18

@Needhelp101 it could be quite useful but imagine the food bills!

Also, DD is on a vampire schedule and recoils at sunlight, maybe there's something in the water.

In what world is 6’4” “not particularly tall”?Confused The average height of a UK man is 5’9”.

Rosie2000 · 05/01/2021 17:45

Have a look at M&S. They go up to a 7 in some kids styles which my dd aged 9 wears

doctorboo · 05/01/2021 19:16

My 9 year old is currently in adult 6.5’s. I get his shoes from Deichmann online.

He has the ladies black waterproof walking shoes/trainers for PE (because black trainers are black trainers) and and has ‘teen boy’ leather school shoes because the teen shoes started from size 5 I think and the men’s at 7?
