I’m heading into my 50’s...words of wisdom?

I turn 50 in a few months, I feel my life has flown by, like many the last 20 years the fastest what with creating a family, just wondering what the next few decades will feel like.

I feel more calmer, more grounded, less angry about my shitty childhood and focused on me. My 2 dc are now in secondary school so less daily drudgery which has given me space to think about what I want to achieve.

If you are in your 50’s or older I’m wondering if you have any words of wisdom you’d like to share?

For my 30’s I would say, use sunscreen, be kind to yourself you look great naturally as you are.

For my 40’s it’s skin care, letting go of the past, quality over quantity with friends, food, clothes...

Thanks in advance

Sort your pension out.

Look after your fitness and agility.

Plenty of exercise, get lots of sleep and drink water!

Eat fewer calories in order to stay slim.

Really look after your teeth and gums.

Eyesight can start to deteriorate and you can get supplements such as Visionace that may help.

Alcohol is ageing so drink in moderation or go teetotal.

Find a good hairdresser

Spend money on skincare and nice clothes that fit and look good

If you want new hobbies, now's a good time. I'm in the planning of totally turning my life around by doing an access course then going to uni as a mature student. I'm also planning to learn to play the drums.

In other words, I'm finally doing stuff for me instead of putting myself last.

Eat less and stretch more.

fussychica · 04/01/2021 17:15

Eat less, exercise more. If we ever get back to normal start doing more stuff you want to do and stuff that makes you feel good about yourself.

Agree with the sleep bit. Regular and spend money on a good mattress.

Calmer and grounded as you hit 50 that is quite an achievement, have you hit the menopause yet?
I agree with all of the above, however it was not until my periods stopped when I was 57 that I noticed I was beginning to lose my more youthful bloom.
I think what is important is to stay young in your ways, be interested in what is going on around you, learn new things and do not stagnate.

Eat less
Exercise more- walking is great
Spend more money on decent clothing
Sleep more

Ignore any sentences that start 'you are too old to wear...'. Smile

Thank you all, very helpful, looks like I’m on the right track! I didn’t know about supplements for eyesight, will look into it thanks.

I’ve been peri menopausal for over 6 years now and hopefully over the worst, females in my family menopause before 50. Thankful I don’t have it looming, it hasn’t been easy!
I’ve been taking imedeen for the past 8 years, I think it’s helped my skin along with my varied skincare investments!

Thanks again

Don't put on weight and keep fit. Eat well, drink lots of water and avoid alcohol. Keep positive - learn new things, keep challenging yourself. Nurture friendships. Don't get stuck in a rut.

Do all the fun stuff now before you get too old. More drugs, more dancing, more travel (ummm), more sex, more booze, just ... more.
