Hi, good choice. We used to live in York and absolutely loved it. If you’re thinking outlying areas then Haxby, Poppleton, Copmanthorpe, Bishopthorpe and Dunnington are all nice. If I were on my own though I would definitely try and get somewhere more central. Depending on your budget the area just to the south around the river is lovely- either side Bishopthorpe Rd/Fishergate. Easy walk into town and lovely riverside walks if you fancy escaping from the city.

York is lovely. I live about 15 miles out. They have had floods there, though. What is your budget?

I live in Huntington which is lovely, about 2-3 miles out of the centre. You can walk along the river into town and its close to the shops and new swimming pool /stadium at Monks Cross. We chose it because a lot of central York is terraced housing and we wanted off street parking. Would also recommend Fulford, Heworth, South bank and surrounding villages like Dunnington, Haxby and Bishopthorpe. Check the flood map before you buy!

Huntington is where I would choose!

My partner and I want to buy a house then have a family. We are looking at York, 3/4 bed house with good schools. Any recommendations?

Hi, just jumping on this thread as I too am moving to York, and looking for a family home (ideally 3 beds, or scope to get a third in the future) within c.40mins walk of centre/station. Have limited buget but I would love a garden with some grass.

Emmalf80 or others, if you found anywhere you liked I'd love to hear!
I spend ages looking on rightmove but i so dither about area?
Is 'Acomb' genuinely 'up-and-coming' or only in Estate agent speak!
