Another thread in the saga filled up (so no forwards link)

I think maybe we're endurance athletes, or maybe multievent like a decathlon Grin

AcornAcorn yes, thankfully I haven't spotted anyone in the locality foaming at the mouth if somebody puts their bins out AND nips out for a pint of milk Smile

Weedsnseeds1 · 07/01/2021 20:29

Oooh it's 0830 and I haven't heard a clap Grin

Recycledblonde · 07/01/2021 20:35

@2020BogOff

Don't most accidents happen in the home anyway?!

All the incidents I have had needing A&E have happened in the house, in the garden or about a few meters of my house.

Clearly I can't be relied to stay home to save the NHS Shock

The accidents I have dealt with recently:

Cut finger on tin can
Fell down stairs x 10
Got stuck in sofa taking down Christmas decorations.
Tripped and hit head on coffee table after 10 too many sherries. None have been whilst driving to take a civilised walk in NT grounds. Some have required multiple resources.

The motto of all paramedics is ‘ you can’t fix stupid’.

flower11 · 07/01/2021 20:35

The car driving thing is ridiculous. Today dh picked me up from work with the children. If He doesn't then I have to get 2 buses, which is our biggest infection risk so he picks me up as much as possible. We drive past a nature place with open take away place. So we stopped had drinks and the children ran off some energy. It is 30 min from home but we are out anyway.

I now keep my spare work lanyard in the car in case we are stopped, though it's rare to see police round our way.

Vintagelovingmum · 07/01/2021 20:39

I'm hoping the over zealous police presence at the moment is just to show they mean business and they'll slowly get bored of it. None of our local NT properties are within walking distance but if I'm still paying my membership fee why can't I travel there once in the next few weeks when it's only 30 mins away.
Our local police force have come out with the 'you must only travel to exercise by walking, running or bicycle' which has pissed me off royally, we've walked the route nearby about a million times and dd1 needs some different environments!
Ps not hear a clap either tonight, was putting the children to bed at the time though

Curlygirl06 · 07/01/2021 20:45
@Curlygirl06 it’s Sainsbury’s according to my friend that works there. You will have to wear a visor if you can’t wear a mask, but I don’t know if that is definite or when it will come in, just what I was told.
What a stupid idea. Hope my work doesn't try that, I'll be quoting disability discrimination at the managers if they do. Mind you, they've been a bit iffy on when staff DON'T have to wear masks, as in when behind a screen, I've had many a conversation about it and they should know, i shouldn't have to tell them.

Curlygirl06 · 07/01/2021 20:45

Oh and no clap here tonight, thank God!

ISaySteadyOn · 07/01/2021 20:51

No clap here either

Evenstar · 07/01/2021 21:03

No clap here thankfully

Weedsnseeds1 · 07/01/2021 21:05

Looks like The Clap has disappeared along with flu, heart attacks, strokes and choking on fish bones then. Good stuff.

DrRamsesEmerson · 07/01/2021 21:10

No clap here, thank heaven.

Pleasedontdothat · 07/01/2021 21:12

No clap here (south London) however some fucker started letting off loads of fireworks just after 7:30 - cue frantic barking by panicked dogs ...

Iheartmysmart · 07/01/2021 21:14

No clapping here either or fireworks thank goodness.

Perhaps a name for the next thread - ADs have buggered boilers but not the clap? That’ll confuse people who aren’t in the know.

TabbyStar · 07/01/2021 21:16

Stuck in sofa Grin

No clap here (though I haven't checked with DD, she's the main candidate for the clap in our house).

I drive the car every so often to make sure it still works as make fairly regular emergency (as in ambulance called) trips to my DM. But obviously that's not allowed either.

Recycledblonde · 07/01/2021 21:36

Definitely no clap here. Far too busy necking wine, may try falling up stairs later.

Bollss · 07/01/2021 22:05

No clapping here either!

Mrsfrumble · 07/01/2021 22:07

No clap here in The People’s Republic of Hackney. Too bloody cold for standing on doorsteps!

NeedWineNow · 07/01/2021 22:09

No clapping here either.

BogRollBOGOF · 07/01/2021 22:12

The "local" debate has been triggered by some foolhardy local councillors who can u-turn quicker than Boris!
Not many dementors in that part of town...
I'm getting good giggles from the comments as their inconsistencies, u-turns, lack of understanding between the distinction in law/ guidence and lack of logic is being torn apart Grin

DH did the bins at 8 and saw two of our neighbours out clapping. He said they looked deranged.

I did feel a bit sorry for one of our neighbours though who suggested it on our local chat group and got quickly scolded for not being aware that the tide had turned on the whole thing.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 07/01/2021 22:38

I don't want to do the clap, didn't hear it mentioned much over here (but then I am not on Facebook much and aren't really seeing anyone!!) but I think it's a real shame that the woman who started it has been in the press today saying she has had a lot of negativity thrown her way and is distancing herself from the campaign. Having seen how awful some people have been to others I hope she is ok, I certainly bear her no ill will as I think she was just trying to do a nice thing (and my then 4 year old loved the Thursday night clap which I mainly did as she enjoyed it so much!).

NastyBlouse · 07/01/2021 22:44

No claps here either.

NannyGythaOgg · 07/01/2021 22:53

No idea if the clap happened on the street - I can't see or hear any of them from my house unless doors/windows are open.

My neighbours have swapped their Christmas wreath on the door for a blue net 'thing' though. They are also total dementors, when it suits them. Daughter and 2 kids were up from schools closing to New Year's Day as 'her boiler broke down on the day they finished school and they couldn't get it fixed until after Christmas'. I did tell them she could be there as often as she wanted for me - I didn't tell them I didn't believe their excuse.

NeedWineNow · 07/01/2021 22:56

Is it just me? Just watching the news. The figures are not good by any stretch of the imagination and the NHS is undoubtedly under major pressure, but here's my problem. People are dying in hospitals and families are not allowed in to be with them. There have been horrendous stories of cancer treatments missed or delayed resulting in now terminal diagnosis, and people being told of cancer diagnoses without being able to have support when they hear that news. Women having to give birth on their own without partners - my own friend was in labour when she got to the hospital but her partner wasn't even allowed to help her into the hospital and carry her bag. In fact no-one helped her, she had to get herself to the maternity unit unaided.

So many horrendous stories and yet turn on the news and they're letting tv crews in for filming and interviews of ward staff, doctors etc. What must that look like to families who weren't allowed in to be with loved ones in their last hours.

As I say, I might be missing something but it makes me so mad.

AcornAutumn · 07/01/2021 23:26

It's been confirmed that hunting and fishing are allowed.

Where can I go and pretend to fish in North London? Serious question. When the weather gets better I could sit there for ages.
