Have you ever had toothache get better by itself?

I am very nervous of dentists to the point of almost being phobic.

Not helped by a bad run of wisdom tooth infections which led to two being taken out in hospital with so much force that I had bruising on my neck Confused a few years back.

I now have toothache in one of my front teeth. It’s not too bad at the moment but I remember how bad it was with my wisdom teeth and it was horrific.

Has anyone had this and it got better by itself or do I need to resign myself to booking an appointment tomorrow 😩

It won't get better by itself sadly.
If the nerve is dying off you may get a period of no pain once it's died but if you leave it you'll likely get an abscess/infection and worse pain..
Definitely get an appointment made as soon as poss.

I had tooth pain that came and went and then came back as an enormous infection and abscess. It was one of the most painful things I have experienced and took two rounds of antibiotics and multiple visits to the dentist to fix.So my advice is not to put it off.

Is it actual pain or increased sensitivity? The former will not get better on its own I don’t think. The latter increases (for some people) with age. I had sensitivity in top front teeth for first time last year and panicked about needing dentist treatment. I started brushing with sensodyne and stopped rinsing my mouth with water after brushing. So far, so good.

I’d say it’s more over sensitivity to be honest. But just around one tooth. No where near what I had when I had the repeated infections a few years ago, it’s just a bit sore if I poke it!

I’m just not sure if it’s going to get worse rather than better

Go to a dentist and get it xrayed so they can see what's going on. The dentist will do everything possible to save the tooth if it's viable.

I had one that seemed to get better by itself. My gum was swollen and painful for about a week.
When I went to my routine dentist appointment a few months later I needed a filling in that tooth. I was very lucky that my body fought off the original infection and that it didn't get re-infected and then worse.
Going to see the dentist now means any infection will be treated quickly and the damage minimised. Leaving it just means that when you are eventually forced to go there will be a lot more damage and the treatment will be significantly worse.

I thought it did but then I had to have the tooth out.

Hey @Foreverlexicon I have a dentist phobia too. I ignored the pain, and then I even ignored the infection for a very long time, but last month I finally went to the dentist and they gave me a root canal. It wasn't painful and they were kind to me.

I also developed my phobia after teeth removal for orthodontic reasons. They will not want to remove your teeth this time, and you should tell them clearly of your trauma before you get on the chair, so that they can reassure you.

You're going to go to the dentist and you're going to be fine. Don't let this fear get any bigger than it already is. I have spent many weeks lying in the dentist chair trying to unpick my phobia and wondering why I let myself get to the point I did, because I wouldn't even speak about teeth, I'd stop listening if people talked about teeth, I certainly wouldn't have opened this thread and read it. You are not so far into your phobia that you can't talk about dentists or teeth, so go now, before your fear gets worse.
