50th birthday soon - any ideas for how you've celebrated your 50th or someone else's in lockdown?

My only idea is get a takeaway. Any other inspirations very welcome, to make my 50th a bit less of a damp squib! We are in the highest tier, so pretty much nothing is open. Also have my eldest's 21st birthday coming up this month too, so the more ideas the merrier for lockdown birthdays. :)

Also, any inspiration for 50th birthday presents? My dcs keep asking me for suggestions of what they can get me, and I have no particular ideas. Anything you received or gave someone else, that was particularly appreciated?

Thank you!

Present ideas :
Cashmere scarf
Sheepskin slippers
Boots
Jewellery
Books
Lovely bath oils

Maybe see if a local 'posh' restaurant does a meal package. Nicer than a normal takeaway.

Thank you. :)

Am wondering whether I can 'extend' my birthday celebrations (hopefully till after lockdown). Has anyone had a 50th where the celebrations went on for...erm...weeks or months? Blush

If you are OK with cooking get one of the restaurant delivery meals you can cook yourself these are national delivery so dosent matter if you are local.
If you give idea of what you like I could possibly help.
Could also get a monthly flower delivery chocolate delivery or magazine of your choice

I was 50 last year, just before lockdown, but my 'big' present was a holiday and nice restaurants whilst on holiday, which we had to cancel. So I had another birthday in the summer, with a few days away in London, afternoon tea etc. And at some point we'll rebook the holiday we had to cancel.

TooMinty · 02/01/2021 10:34

I've seen some Home by Nico meals advertised on Facebook that look nice.

And what about postponing the proper celebration to next year? When my DH turned 40 I had just had our 2nd baby so he didn't get much of a celebration. Instead we had a big party the following year for combined 41st/1st birthday.

We have done a different theme night in different rooms.
Mexico night in the kitchen with margaritas, tequila shots and nachos
American night in the dining room with beer pong, pizza and pop corn
French night in conservatory - cheese and wine
English pub in the living room with beer, crisps, nuts, pork scratchings and scotch eggs and pork pies.
One hour in each room rotating

There are companies that come in and 'dress your space' in a lovely theme and then you could get a local caterer to do a lovely four course meal for you.

My 50th was recently during lockdown. I was dreading it. Actually it was great. I went for a socially distanced breakfast outside with a friend, a walk with my dad and then spent the evening with my family and a takeaway. DH bought a big box of party decorations and the kids had fun popping party poppers and blowing balloons.

It was about a million miles away from what I had thought a 50th should be but was brilliant. Reminded me that really the important things are friends and family and not posh treats. Also I can do that anytime but my family won't be there forever.

SoddingWeddings · 02/01/2021 11:35

DH was 40 in lockdown #1. My 40th is in a few weeks time.

I had to cancel the plans for his birthday, which had involved canal boats, a group of friends and a Jack Sparrow outfit got the birthday boy.

We have no plans for my 40th, and I have no idea what to do! We thought we could celebrate the two together in 2021, but it's not looking very likely either.

DH refuses to be 40 because he didn't get a birthday party 😂🎂

Get a nice afternoon tea delivered? Something a bit more special than a takeaway

Wotrewelookinat · 02/01/2021 15:24

I was 50 in June so was lucky with the weather,...bought a takeaway lunch and ate it at the local beach.

My present was some bespoke jewellery bought from Etsy designed around my main interest.

Wotrewelookinat · 02/01/2021 15:26

In fact I was very relieved that lockdown meant I wasn’t expected to have a big party!

bdaygal · 02/01/2021 17:29

Thanks for all the very creative suggestions!

Not sure my favourite one isn't @SoddingWeddings idea of refusing to turn 50 until I'm allowed a proper celebration! Grin

Happy to remain 49 for a bit longer... Grin

@Wotrewelookinat

Ooh, I wouldn't mind lockdown birthdays nearly so much if I had a local beach. Even in Jan. Sounds a lovely way to spend the day.
