Warm and waterproof wellies

Well maybe not wellies. Seeing as all we can do is go out for walks, I need some decent footwear.

I have massive calves so can’t really do long boots but my current wellies just aren’t up for the job, my feet freeze. I’ve had a look at snow boots but there’s so many and some of them seem to be for fashion only (wedge heel snow boots, I don’t think so!)

Can any of you recommend the ones you have or ones to avoid. Thanks

Muck boot wellies are really warm. They're a bit clumpy though, not particularly fashionable. I wear them for sheep work and love how warm they are

I like snow boots, the ones with a rubber bottom and padded fleece lined upper. Get them from Trespass, Mountain Warehouse etc.

I have just bought some Dunlop short wellies with wide calf, though. They cost £9.99 on EBay and with thick socks are the best things I’ve worn for winter dog walking! Comfy, dry and warm. It’s hilly and muddy where I live and these are perfect.

I also have wide calves.

I like that - wide calves. I shall be using that from now on!

I have some muck boots, they were great.y wife calves. I longer fit in them. Will see if they do short ones

I obviously have wide fingers too!

I've got snow boots and they're lovely and warm but I'd feel weird wearing them on just a normal walk with no snow.

Watching thread for ideas, as I'm so fed up of mud!

bellinisurge · 02/01/2021 10:28

Also wide of calf. Also have black Trespass snow boots. About to use them for a long walk. Do I look stylish and sophisticated? No. Do they work brilliantly? yes.
Which obviously means I'm about to slip and fall on my arse 😂😂

Horse riding or yard boots might be better for you as they sometimes come in wide fitments and are generally waterproof

I have muck boots and can’t fault them. I’ve got the slip on style ones with furry lining and they’re warm, comfy and waterproof.

houmousexpert · 02/01/2021 10:42

I have these and love them. I don't like wearing wellies as my feet get cold, but these keep them really warm.

I have some fleece lined Hunters and they’re great. They’re short too so you won’t have a problem getting them on over calves. I’m not usually a Hunter fan as I find there’s better quality wellies for lower prices generally but these are seriously good. They are new this year so you’ll be able to get on the website

EnjoyingTheSilence · 02/01/2021 13:10

I was looking at those hunters but was worried about the reviews. I went for some Trespass ones in the end. Will report back on if they’re any good. Thanks everyone

I see you’ve bought some already but I can recommend Le Chemeau, neoprene lined. They are so warm and comfortable. I believe they do different calf widths too.

StandardPoodle · 02/01/2021 18:51

I love my Aigle Parcours Vario 2 neoprene lined wellies. They're warm and more like wearing a shoe, and also have an adjustable calf fitting.

Madbengalmum · 02/01/2021 18:59

Le chameau,Aigle, Muck boot or for snow boots waterproof Sorel. All these are good boots.
I would avoid Hunter now, as they leak and are badly made now, with the exception of the Jimmy Choo collaboration which were the best wellies i ever had. Sorels are warmest though.
