Social media/influencers

Don’t you think it’s strange that we waste so much time following influencers or even friends and family on social media? It might just be me but I just realised how ridiculous it is. Why am I watching someone else’s insta story of them going on holiday? Why am I watching their shopping trip, what they’re eating at restaurants, then hanging out with friends and doing exciting stuff? Most of these are people that I don’t even know personally. I notice when I’m busy and out for the day, I never think what’s so and so doing. I completely forget about them. But then as soon as i am home and bored, I get sucked in. I’m watching all their insta stories. I end up stalking their friends as well 🙊. But why do we (or just me!) do this. I understand following those for inspiration such interior design or cooking videos etc. But why do I care about some influencer showing me what they eat in a day or what’s in my handbag. Don’t get me wrong I’m going to delete my Instagram but does anybody else feel this way?

I've never felt the need to follow what anyone else is doing, I have zero interest. I don't do Instagram and I hardly ever look at Facebook. I don't understand what is so interesting about other people's lives. Celebrities & influencers are of no interest to me. I appreciate I might be unusual in that or maybe just old Grin The only form of social media I look at regularly is MN. I've better and more interesting things to be doing.

The only thing on my Instagram are sea glass, driftwood, plants and baking.
I don't watch stories of anyone I don't know in real life, and I don't follow any influencers, so it keeps it all drama free

I don't follow influencers. I like to see what my friends are up to especially as I haven't seen a lot of them for months but I don't watch what strangers are doing.

My sister in law is a wanna be influencer. What you see on Instagram is no relation to reality.

JorisBonson · 02/01/2021 07:08

I have zero interest in these people.

I think it’s our natural instinct to people watch and relate to people. I follow a few influencers and it’s reassuring that they have the same thoughts and feelings about things that I do.

It's a bit like a soap opera, isn't it. You feel you know them, you become invested in their life. But they're not 'real', so you forget about them when you're busy living your own life.

Only follow people who post content that makes you feel good. If you find someone funny or they post about things you're genuinely interested in, then they're adding value to your life. If you're hate-watching or find yourself thinking 'why am I watching this, I don't care'... delete. You can always re-follow if you miss their content. (You probably won't.)
