What is your glasses 👓 prescription?

hettyhooverdoover · 01/01/2021 19:03

Mine is +1.50 in one eye and +0.75 in the other with astigmatism as well. I've always been prescribed glasses but rarely wear them to be honest but recently struggling a bit reading some labels on jars etc....my job is mainly a practical job with just a small amount of computer work.

Would you wear them with this low prescription?

Mine 2.50 both eyes just got reading.

MirandaWest · 01/01/2021 23:42

Mine are about -11.5 in both eyes. I wear contact lenses most of the time but need my glasses first thing in the morning and last thing at night - and I have to know exactly where they are as I can’t see well enough to find them Grin

Sirzy · 01/01/2021 23:43

I’m -2.5 in both eyes

Ds is -6.75 and -7 he also has a squint which is being made worse by the glasses unfortunately! Short sighted and squint clash

+2.25 and +2.75, I think.

I didn't get glasses until well into adulthood, well beyond when I should have though it was lower back then, and the difference it made. My eyes used to get so tired, so now I wear my glasses all the time though I really only need them for things involving reading or fine details.

Sparkesy · 02/01/2021 00:01

Was -7 in one eye and -8 in the other, then wore varifocal contacts (amazing!) once I hit my 40s.
Was waiting for the promised improvement as I got older with longsightedness kicking in to reduce my short sightedness, but weirdly had a rapid deterioration and both eyes worsened.
Suddenly one eye was -13 !!!!!!
Had multi-focal lens implants in the summer- best thing I've ever done.
I can see! Without glasses at all!
Still a novelty when every morning and the miracle is I CAN SEE!
In the shower I CAN SEE!
going for a swim I CAN SEE!
I will probably never have to wear glasses EVER.
It's truly a miracle Grin

@MirandaWest I remember in the early days with my DH he moved them for some reason and he found me with my nose an inch from the surfaces patting them down trying to find them. He had no idea my eyes were so bad! He has never moved them since! Grin

Stretchandsnap · 02/01/2021 08:40

I was -7 in both eyes with an astigmatism in both and just before Christmas in unexpectedly received some money and had my eyes lasered. It has been life changing. I have better than 20/20 vision now and they left one eye under-corrected so I can still read without classes (mid-40s).

wishywashywoowoo70 · 02/01/2021 09:03

I had -9.75 and -10.25 until I had laser eye surgery when I was 25. Best thing I ever did because I couldn't see bugger all.
My eyes are -75 and -1.50 nearly 25 years later but I only really wear glasses for driving now

Orange32 · 02/01/2021 16:40

My DS (16) is -24 in his right eye and -22 in left eye, with mild astigmatism. He currently wears glasses

Oh gosh. Has he considered laser treatment?
Fruitinator · 02/01/2021 22:49

Mine are -3.00 and -3.75 ...

I wear contact lenses, DP will show me stuff on his phone asking if I've got my eyes in.

I really feel for those of you with stronger prescriptions- losing my glasses/contacts is debilitating enough!

AlfieandAnnieRose · 02/01/2021 22:50

@Sparkesy can you tell me more about the multi-focal lens implants you had done? My eyesight is about same as yours -10. If you have the surgery does that mean your eyesight stays 20/20 for the rest of your life? And was the recovery quick?
I would love to be able to see without glasses or contacts, I feel very vulnerable without them (obviously!) plus I don’t really get on with my glasses and contacts.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 02/01/2021 22:51

@Orange32 I never knew it could go up to -24, is that considered legally blind? Forgive my ignorance

ApocalypseNow · 02/01/2021 22:59

I wear -2.5 in both eyes. One eye is slightly worse - the optician told me I wouldn’t notice a difference if I kept the same prescription contacts/lenses for both eyes but I do! I’ve never really got on with glasses so I wear contacts most of the time. I’m fine at home but really struggle doing anything out of the house without my glasses or contacts.

Dancingalong · 02/01/2021 23:01

-6 in both eyes. Would love to have laser treatment one day. Mainly wear contacts especially over the last few months.

Sparkesy · 02/01/2021 23:18

@AlfieandAnnieRose
The surgery was very much like cataract surgery- took about 10 minutes each eye, amazingly quick, blurry for the first 2 days, pretty much perfect vision after that, getting gradually better to excellent within 2 weeks max.

Now no glasses at all, and have been told that should be the same for the rest of my life.
It's amazing.
Not cheap (about 3 and a half thousand for each eye) but so so worth it.

I went private to get the multi focal lens, as would have needed reading glasses with single focus lens implants.
Did a lot of research and would highly recommend the surgeon Mr James Ball if you are towards the North of England.

crankyhousewife · 02/01/2021 23:21

Mine are -6.5 in one eye and -11 in the other.

vanillandhoney · 02/01/2021 23:29

-8.75 in one eye and -9.75 in the other. I have astigmatism in both, They used to be worse but my prescription has come down a bit recently.

SoupnSalads · 03/01/2021 01:07

Another -10 here. To be honest I was delighted when I reached minus 10 as the NHS recognises it as clinically blind and I get money towards glasses.

I can see very well in extreme detail at about 3 inches. After that its a blur.

My exP said I was like a mole in the morning (I have brown eyes) flapping around for me glasses.

SoupnSalads · 03/01/2021 01:08

I'm too scared for laser treatment, I think it's more complex the worse your eyes are.

It was too new when I was younger, people were going to Russia for it.

8Track · 03/01/2021 01:21

SoupnSalads sounds so.similar to me here, I'm pretty good at mooching around the house without glasses though. Until ANYTHING moves.

And yep, totally wont get anything laser done that might make things worse, or - as a brief online consult told me - mean I'd need reading glasses and driving glasses within 2-5 years. Soo......loving my whopper glasses ta, and having had them since I was 4 am well up for keeping them!!

Whydoievencare · 03/01/2021 04:58

Stupid question but can eyesight ever improve? I mean without having laser eye surgery?

Orange32 · 03/01/2021 09:18

Wishwashywoowoo70, my DSs prescription is too high for laser treatment and no permanent procedures would be done until he had finished growing, which would not be till around 24/25 years old so not an option for him.

Orange32 · 03/01/2021 09:20

AlfieandAnnieRose, my son is classed as Visually Impaired here as he does have a certain amount of useable vision when he is wearing his glasses.

vanillandhoney · 03/01/2021 09:36

@Whydoievencare

Mine has gone down in recent years - not drastically but by a couple of points or so. I'm only in my thirties :)

My optician said it was fairly common in people with short-sightedness. I'm not eligible for any kind of surgery as I have astigmatism in both eyes, so I'll be a glasses-wearer for life regardless!
