What is your glasses 👓 prescription?

hettyhooverdoover · 01/01/2021 19:03

Mine is +1.50 in one eye and +0.75 in the other with astigmatism as well. I've always been prescribed glasses but rarely wear them to be honest but recently struggling a bit reading some labels on jars etc....my job is mainly a practical job with just a small amount of computer work.

Would you wear them with this low prescription?

+10.5 and +10 with astigmatism. I feel like I'm as blind as a bat without my specs on. They are the first thing I put on in a morning and the last thing I take off at night.

I’m the same! Could have written it exactly as you have! Rare to read of someone with the same prescription.[/quote]
It's pretty rubbish isn't it? I need a retest as well because I didn't recognise my own son across the road Blush Thought he looked somewhat familiar but couldn't work out who it was and that's with my specs on as well! He wasn't offended as it's happened regularly over the years.

SallyOMalley · 01/01/2021 20:09

I'm only about -0.5 in each eye. I've worn glass for 30 years and, in a way, wished I'd never started. My current optician said that he probably wouldn't recommend glasses for my prescription these days, but now I'm used to pin-sharp vision, it's hard to go back.
I now need an element for reading so have moved on to varifocals - expensive!

DramaAlpaca · 01/01/2021 20:12

I'm -8 in one, -7.5 in the other and astigmatic in both. Annoyingly I can no longer tolerate contact lenses so glasses it is, and they cost me a fortune.

-9 & -13 I also have keratoconus in one eye.

I'm totally stuffed if I ever break my glasses!

Gilead · 01/01/2021 21:38

-2.75 in the left eye. Right eye no idea, had a cataract operation last week, need to go back because I still need glasses for distance and have a grey blob moving across my vision!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 01/01/2021 21:42

Mine is -950 in right eye and -975 in left
I also have glaucoma, an astigmatism, and retinal thinning and scarring I'm 56 and my sight( or lack of) inhibits me more than my( moderate) Cerebral Palsy!

redcandlelight · 01/01/2021 21:43

+2 and astigmatism
I wear my glasses most of the time.
can't see anything on a computer without really.
and one eye is really bad in the dark without.

OrangeBlossom28 · 01/01/2021 21:45

-11 with an astigmatism in both eyes. I'm now 49 and think my eyes have worsened again.

TheNoodlesIncident · 01/01/2021 21:50

I'm -8.5 and -9.25, but they have been worse. A different optician from my usual sold me varifocal glasses and said I would get used to them and be able to focus close up at the bottom and far away through the top part. I actually felt slightly sick using them but persevered as advised.

A few months on, I realised that I couldn't make out DH's face from five feet away and needed an eye test, so went back to my original opticians. Prescription had changed to -10.5 and -12 Shock. Got new glasses from them, new lenses (I usually wear contacts, the glasses were for "resting") and took a whole barrage of sunglasses, reading glasses, spares with me to Crete... came back, went for another eye test as things seemed wonky again, new script was -8.5 and -9.5 again! It was almost as though the brighter light of Crete has "fixed" them.

They've since improved again to -8.5 and -9.25. Slight adjustment to contacts and I still wear reading glasses for reading/computer work, but I'm just so thankful I can see properly again.

You can't buy glasses online when your prescription is severe, but it's probably a good thing as there's no substitute for your optician knowing your eyes!

Newoneforthis28 · 01/01/2021 21:52

I give you .... minus 12.5 in left eye and minus 11 in my right. And I thought the scale only went to 10. Astigmatism in both and corneas too thin for surgery.
Have to use hard lenses as soft can’t take my Px and now that I’m of a certain age I can add specialist varifocals and reading glasses to my shopping list.
Going to the loo in the night sans specs is an adventure sport 😀

AlexandraPeppernose · 01/01/2021 21:55

+2.5 in both eyes but I really can't see anything close without them so have to wear them constantly

Mumoftwoinprimary · 01/01/2021 21:57

Well into double negative figures in both eyes including the astigmatism. I have nightmares about not being able see.

On the bright side - I get a voucher of £14.40 from the government to help pay for glasses. The fact that my glasses cost hundreds of pounds to thin them enough so that they only leave small dents in my head is just a teeny tiny detail. Grin

OrangeBlossom28 · 01/01/2021 22:12

@Newoneforthis28 I thought I couldn't have soft contact lenses with my prescription (-11 plus astigmatism) but I can manage with toric soft with one eye for distance and the other eye for near vision. The only downside is the cost £50 for 30 pairs.

lcdododo · 01/01/2021 22:32

I was -1.5

But then I had them both lasered 2 weeks ago

Camomila · 01/01/2021 22:35

-0.5 in the left eye, nothing in the right eye. Anti glare finish.

I suffer from migraines and the anti glare stops me getting headaches in certain types of light (low sunshine through white cloud is the worst for me)

SatsumaFan · 01/01/2021 22:38

-5.75 and -5. It's annoying having them different as means I can't just buy one box of contact lenses.

Wow I didn't know the scale went as far as 12! I feel really sorry for those of you with such poor vision.

PickAChew · 01/01/2021 22:55

Mostly astigmatism - cylinder of - 2.25 and -2.75 which makes everything really blurry, uncorrected.

Slight long sight +.75. It really makes a difference having that included, so I can imagine that having glasses for that on its own could make life more comfortable.

Also the joy of a +1.75 reading addition.

daisypond · 01/01/2021 22:59

About -5 in both, with astigmatism. But that prescription is over four years old and my eyes are definitely worse now. I’m waiting for opticians to open up properly again.

Cait73 · 01/01/2021 23:01

I have a similar prescription and I wear varifocals because I find putting them on and taking them off a total faff

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 01/01/2021 23:03

-3.5 and -4.5. Switched to varifocals recently and these have been really good. Still wear separate single strength lenses for computer work (and take them off to read or do close work).

It was a revelation to find a place that takes your prescription and makes swimming goggles.

ExpensivelyDecorated · 01/01/2021 23:11

-12 with mild astigmatism and probably a bot or long sight as well now, can't remember my exact prescription. I mainly wear monthly contact lenses. I can see very well close up without either and can read on my phone that way by holding it close but can't do much else.

MisfitNotMissFit · 01/01/2021 23:20

I have +1.5 in one and -1.5 in the other, plus ocular hyperthermia. t always makes for an interesting conversation at the opticians and leads to a delay if I order frames online as they think I've mistyped the prescription.

ItWasntMyFault · 01/01/2021 23:30

-9.5 and -9 with astigmatism in both eyes.

They were worse but the longsightedness I'm getting with age is 'correcting' the bad shortsightedness.

Changethetoner · 01/01/2021 23:32

-3.5 and -3.25 (I only have two eyes).

iwasacceptableinthe80s · 01/01/2021 23:38

-5.5 in my left eye, -2.5 in my right, with astigmatism. I've worn glasses since I was 9 years old, and contact lenses since I was18. I now have varifocal glasses and mutifocal daily disposable contact lenses. I've been wearing contacts more in the past 6 months or so, as they don't steam up with a mask!
