Recently found out in pregnant with HPV high grade dyskaryosis

Hello,

I have just found out I am 5 week pregnant, me and my partner out over the moon and have been trying for the last year.
I recently had a smear test which came back as HPV positive (high grade dyskaryosis). I have had a colposcopy and was in formed I needed loop treatment to remove the pre cancerous cells, not realising would have been 1 week pregnant when I had my colposcopy!... luckily I did not accept treatment that day and I asked to be put to sleep a few weeks later... thank goodness. I am now not going to be treated until after I have had the baby as I found out when waiting for my treatment date. I am so so so worried about the cells changing further before I can be treated and I am not finding any support from my Doctors currently nor the hospital as I literally cannot get through to anyone who will talk to about this or reassure me.

Have anyone experienced this? And if so please share your stories? Very worried about mine and babies health atm. Thanks 😊

Hi OP
There is a bit of information on the colposcopists' site here and also the NHS CSP guidelines state follow up would usually be the case rather than treatment in pregnancy (see page 75 where it states
"Evidence: the safety of delaying treatment of pregnant women has been demonstrated in a number of cohort and retrospective uncontrolled studies"

However, I suggest that you do try and contact your colposcopy unit again to discuss and for them to talk you through this.

Ask to speak to the hospital’s colposcopy nurse.

I don’t mean to scare you but my story is that in June I had my smear. It came back as high grade dyskariosis. I had the LLETZ a week later and it tourney out as stage one cervical cancer.
Had another LLETZ which removed the cancer but still had high grade cells left so I am now awaiting a hysterectomy (covid keeps delaying that so I’m scared now)

Speaking to the nurse will be best as she can advise you what to do.

Hi baker
I am in the exact same situation as you at the moment. I know how you feel. The waiting is so worrying. How are you doing now?

I am 8 weeks on Monday and I'm going for a colposcopy today as I have high grade dyskaryosis. I'm petrified of the result, of what it means for my pregnancy (had mis carriage back in October)
Fingers crossed for all

Hi,
Hope all goes well at your colposcopy.
The more I have looked into this it is actually a lot more common than I thought. And having hpv and cervical Dysplasia has no effect on your pregnancy and can be easily treated after you give birth. Both my doctors assured me of this and told me not to worry. (Easier said than done)
Sending you all the positive vibes for today I know how scary it can be!!

Hi, I’m wondering how everyone is since this thread? I’m in a similar position and looking for some real life info for what to expect! Hope it’s good news for you all

Hi, my baby is 18 months now and everything worked out. Most of my changes seemed to be pregnancy related and the hpv cleared itself after I had my baby. I remember how worried I was during my entire pregnancy. And I was Googling way too much and reading awful stuff. Don’t do what I did, stay calm and enjoy your pregnancy. Sending you positive vibes!!!

Thank you for sharing! Did they delay your treatment until after baby was born? were you monitored throughout pregnancy? This is my third and last pregnancy.. feel like it’s spoiling the experience for me a bit which I hate. I went from normal to severe dyskaryosis in a year so I’m worried it’s quite fast changing.

Luckynumber5 · 15/03/2023 16:53

Also I am lucklady7 (confusing I know)

I was monitored throughout my pregnancy, had two colposcopy’s one at 16 weeks and again at 32 weeks, then two weeks after baby I had another colposcopy and they took biopsies and all came back normal. Had two smears since and all normal hpv negative. Mine seemed to have cleared up after having my baby. I remembered how worried I was during my pregnancy, and it spoiled the experience, mine was my 3rd and last pregnancy too. I know it’s easier said than done but try not to worry, these things take years and can always resolve on there own like mine did! You will be well looked after and monitored during your pregnancy!
