What about the other tier 4 areas though

Wouldn't be surprised if other areas are added before Monday.

Holy Mo. Talk about a U turn

I bet more closures will be announced on Sunday.

IHateCoronavirus · 01/01/2021 18:27

I think they need to do it across the board until the 18th then start relaxing if the numbers are easing.

Flinstones · 01/01/2021 18:27

Our poor children. We need the schools open.

MissMarks · 01/01/2021 18:31

Things must be so much worse than the public is being told 😕

whatswithtodaytoday · 01/01/2021 18:32

I wish they'd say nurseries need to close.

I think this too. It’s terrifying I think all the schools need to close. This virus needs to be stopped.
tenlittlecygnets · 01/01/2021 18:38

I am not sending my dc back on 18 Jan if virus numbers are this high.

I agree with the U turn and I think the govt will add more tier 4 areas. It's insane that schools in tier 4 should be open. Completely unsafe.

JoannaDory · 01/01/2021 18:45

I really doubt that the numbers of infections and hospitalisations will be much lower by the 18th when secondary schools are due to go back as we have the Christmas and NY increases to factor in yet, so really hoping this will be extended to secondary schools too before the 18th.

Agree.

Is that because you work in a nursery?

If you just have children there then surely it's your choice whether to send them or not.

I watched bbc news earlier.

I didn't listen fully as was doing stuff and it came on early when I didn't expect it.

But something about scientists saying with new strain even with schools shut we could see cases triple before they fall.

Wish I'd listened because it sounded terrifying and I want to know exactly what they've said.

weepingwillow22 · 01/01/2021 18:51

Anyone know what this means for special schools in London?

dinosforall · 01/01/2021 18:53

@whatswithtodaytoday

I wish they'd say nurseries need to close.
Except that many nurseries reopened in the summer, and infection rates didn't go up.
SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 01/01/2021 18:54

@weepingwillow22 Special schools in my borough are staying open.

I'm not London.

But we've been told special schools will remain open at all times.

With no testing either. And secondary school special schools also won't have the mask rule like MS.

I guess it's because all the pupils come under vulnerable category?

TheChosenTwo · 01/01/2021 19:00

Wow. I’m surprised and not in equal measure.
Working in a primary school myself I have said all along that children are best off in school where possible. It now feels very unsafe and worrying and a lot of my colleagues are incredibly worried about the risk to us in a tier 4 area being exposed to 32 children in a small non socially distanced classroom after the Christmas break and all the mixing they may or may not have done.
I’ve not been scared before but I am now.

Velvian · 01/01/2021 19:02

I really hope they make the same decision for all tier 4 schools. I really want my DCs to learn in school and I have to work, but it is not safe for teachers or parents for children to be in school at the moment.

whatswithtodaytoday · 01/01/2021 19:10

@Rainb0wDrops It is my choice, but I work full time and work will expect me to send my child in if the nursery is open.

Rainb0wDrops · 01/01/2021 19:14

Ah I see. I also need nursery so I can work and I'm grateful they are opening. If they close my work are understanding to a point as I wfh but in reality what that means is cramming my full working day in to the hours after bedtime and last time it almost broke me.

shinynewapple2020 · 01/01/2021 19:21

I'm confused . I thought this is what was said on Wednesday?

whatswithtodaytoday · 01/01/2021 19:22

@Rainb0wDrops Same. I can't bear the thought of doing it again, but at least in spring work were understanding for the first few weeks.

FrostedCranberries · 01/01/2021 19:25

How long are they closing schools for?
