Has anyone had a reaction to Fitbit?

I had a Fitbit for Christmas to kickstart getting more exercise this year, but it's really irritating me. Not the strap but the actual monitor, I don't have a rash but it feels like a chemical burn type of irritation.

Has anyone else had the same or is it just me?

My son had a reaction under the monitor to his old fitbit, he just got a new Garmin and so far it seems ok.

This happened to me exactly as you described but it was definitely caused by the strap. I changed it to a fabric one and it didn't happen again!

Not the monitor, but the strap. 3 out of four in our family now have alternative straps.

Yes I get irritated by mine every now and then if I take it off for ages then put it back on!!

WhatTheFoot · 01/01/2021 14:06

Yep, it's the strap..I got a leather one and it was fine thereafter.

Birthdayhat · 01/01/2021 14:08

I got a small patch of burn under the monitor, definitely not the strap. Fitbit refunded it for me very quickly. I think it's quite common - I would love to find a smart watch that doesn't do it but scared to try more now.

It’s the nickel in the Charging port. I’ve had it and solved it by covering the charging port with a strip of duct tape when wearing. Remove to charge and replace with fresh tape after. Really shitty from Fitbit tbh.

TheGirlWhoLived · 01/01/2021 14:10

I get it from the monitor but it is definitely the nickel that causes it for me!

vjg13 · 01/01/2021 14:13

Me too, but has actually improved recently, will try duct tape when it returns.

JohnMcClane · 01/01/2021 14:18

Wow I didn't think I'd get so many replies. Thanks for the responses and advice. Really helpful, I'll see if duct tape works before returning it.

Have people had similar reaction to different devices?

My daughter did. I contacted Fitbit to recommend a new strap but they said they couldn’t and immediately refunded me the full price. Didn’t even have to go via the retailer. They sent me a pre paid envelope to return it.
