I'm not very au fait with online gaming. My kids (8 & 6) are desperate to play this online....can anyone offer me any advice please? They don't play anything online at all; Minecraft on the XBox with each other & that's about it. I have considered letting them log in with friends in recent weeks due to lack of socialising/school, but I want to get my head around it all first.

My 11 years play it, mainly with people from school. They are set up with names that are random that I vetted and don't talk with random people. However you have to murder people (it's a murder mystery) if you're the imposter and it's quite cartoony in nature. Yours maybe a little young but I would play it first.

Mine have just started playing this, they are 4 and 9. From what I've read, the open servers can have people who name their characters with inappropriate names and there is a chat function which can be sweary or have inappropriate chat. We have avoided this so far by setting up private parties for them and their friends to play on.

There are imposters and crew mates in the game. Some people are assigned to be crew mates at the start of each game and some to be imposters (it's random). The crew mates are meant to go around solving puzzles and trying to work out who the imposters are. The imposters are supposed to sabotage the puzzles and kill the crew mates. Each time a body is found, everyone has to vote on who the imposter(s) are. If they identify all the imposters correctly, the crew mates win. If they don't, the imposters win. The graphics are quite cartoony so not scary for younger ones.

If they’re just playing in private rooms with friends and won’t find the cartoony deaths scary, I wouldn’t have an issue. Playing on the open servers is way less fun than this anyway.

It sounds complicated for a 4 year old!

MillieVanilla · 01/01/2021 14:19

I don't mind it. You can't add anyone on there, chat is limited to discussions on who the "impostor" is.
I will be honest and say my kids have got me into it. I'm that bored.

My 5 and 8 tear old play it, you can go into settings so it filters out bad language in the chat. The chat is never anything more than 'who do you think is sus' 'where was the body found' etc. I may have also become a bit addicted to it!
