Knocking on window vs door

My friend has just come round and knocked on my window instead of the door and scared the absolute shit out of me. The noise startled me and the front garden is dark so when I looked up there was just a disembodied face looming in the darkness.
I suspected it was her as she's done it before, and I feel bad because she's a lovely person but it did make me very cross.
Also it sends the dogs mad.
I can see if, say, someone's house was on fire and no one answered the door you might try the window but for a social call (dropping off a card ffs) why wouldn't you just knock on the fucking door?
Is this just a normal thing that people do and I'm a killjoy and ogre?

Barely anything makes me rage in life but this sends me fucking crazy!

MsChatterbox · 31/12/2020 18:36

No I'm sure people that do this are completely barny.

Twickerhun · 31/12/2020 18:36

We had several people do that this year. Ive got even more protective of my privacy due to knowing that no one is going to actually come in my house.... so people coming to chat through the window fucks me right off.

WeeDangerousSpike · 31/12/2020 18:39

People peering in through the windows really winds me up, let alone knocking on them! Why anyone would think that was appropriate I don't know.

Runnerduck34 · 31/12/2020 18:44

Did she knock the door and you didnt hear her? I would only resort to knocking on a window if id tried the door with no luck and they were expecting me.
Otherwise just knock on the door!

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 31/12/2020 18:48

Hate it

Doesn’t happen often but a few days ago i had delivery man knock on the door, ring the bell and knock on the window within 3 seconds

It was the window one which pushed me over the edge!

JUST FUCKING PICK ONE!!!

Unfortunately for me he was already back in his van by the time i got to the door

Gliblet · 31/12/2020 18:50

Ohhhh that would have me out there with a bucket of cold water.

Mind you, as I'm typing this I'm wondering if it's a Covid knock on of people having conversations through an open window rather than being invited in?

quickkimchi · 31/12/2020 18:51

If she'd knocked on the door we (and dogs) would have heard for sure. We were only sitting quietly listening to the radio.
I already know I'm a bit of a curmudgeon and extremely introverted (dfriend is queen of the extroverts so possibly some misalignment anyway) but my objection isn't on principle, it made me jump out of my skin.
Anyway some comfort knowing it's not just me.
