Will there be fireworks tonight?

I'm guessing not, but was wondering if London or anywhere else, will still put on and televise fireworks tonight.

I thought I read online that the BBC will televise something, I believe drones were mentioned.
In my neck of the woods (Germany) fireworks are a very big thing at New Year. In the past this meant that I often stayed overnight somewhere as most of the village rockets etc. seemed to land in my garden.
This year fireworks have been banned from sale, so I am hoping for a quieter time. There are definitely no public displays, but I heard on the radio the other day, that you may get away with things that are not rockets, should you happen to have any left over from last year.

I heard the bbc are planning to show a ‘highlight reel’ of 2020...that’ll take all of 30 seconds then 😫

Geepee71 · 31/12/2020 10:58

Thanks both.
I rarely stay up to watch the midnight broadcast, but normally catch the news to see the round up from round the world.
Then got to wondering if any would happen anyway with new tiers etc.

The London ones were cancelled which is understandable but a shame - I would have liked to see the back of 2020 with some controlled explosions!

There were fireworks here last night though - presumably left overs in someone's garden.

lubeybooby · 31/12/2020 11:07

the London fireworks are the same every year even down to the songs they use, so completely pointless anyway. I might just try and sync up watching one of the old ones with the midnight countdown

missyB1 · 31/12/2020 11:09

I was hoping not (dog is bloody terrified of them), but they are on sale in Asda Angry

The organised displays will be cancelled but lots of people will do their own I suspect.

mynameiscalypso · 31/12/2020 11:11

I think they filmed a drone display in London a couple of days ago and that will be shown on TV in place of fireworks. London fireworks were cancelled months ago weren't they?

SoupDragon · 31/12/2020 11:18

London fireworks were cancelled months ago weren't they?

They were changed to Boris standing on top of the London Eye waving a small sparkler.

One of my three dogs is terrified but I have had great success with these over the last few years - calming biscuits that I bulk buy from Amazon.

He is a Longdog, so quite big and four biscuits makes him very chilled out!

I also use one of his neck warmers pulled up to cover his ears which also helps!

@soupdragon that's priceless, with added zip wire for him to get stuck halfway down!

@Soutiner thanks for that I’m ordering those biscuits.

Oh, he's not coming down.

Unless someone pushes him. There is a queue.

nosswith · 31/12/2020 11:49

@SoupDragon hopefully with someone to push him in the Thames. At least his hair will get a wash and look reasonable for a few seconds.

Geepee71 · 31/12/2020 13:38

@nosswith, I'm wondering of the hair is a ploy to distract people from what he's saying. He does appear to have lost some of the annoying bluff and bluster non-speak that was beyond infuriating.
