Boiler repair in tier4/lockdown

Hi can anybody help me as I'm worrying a bit.
My boiler's broken, I've managed to get a Saturday appointment for 9th Jan ( single parent and a teacher so can't just take a full day off to wait in for them to arrive) but here's my worry, if we go into full lockdown or tier 4 for the whole country (we're tier 3 currently) will they still come out to do boiler repairs? I'm happy to wait until Saturday but not if it means missing the boat and having to live with a broken boiler all through lockdown. The only other option is to take a weekday appointment and take the day off unpaid. What would you do? Thanks!

Yes, boiler repairs are permitted. You won’t be in school anyway presumably so I’d try to get an appointment before the 9th.

Our engineer was certainly working during lockdown as we chatted when he came to service boiler. He said it was quiet to start with, but then lots started thinking about improvements and he ended up with lots of boiler replacements. He said he was still working if people had symptons or coronavirus, but he'd want extra precautions taken.

Our plumber told us he'd worked through the first lockdown. Boiler repair counts as essential.

I’ve had an electrician round whilst in T4. Trades are allowed to continue working.

Have you asked them? You certainly can have your boiler repaired but there may be a reason that your specific plumber can't come

zigaziga · 31/12/2020 11:18

Can’t think of a reason they wouldn’t, people are still allowed to work. It doesn’t even have to be essential.
I had my oven cleaned in the November lockdown no problem.

I had the same problem, work was done. It's essential.

You're not without heating and hot water till the 9th I hope?

ChristmasinJune · 31/12/2020 14:46

Phew the consensus seems to be that they'll still come, fab thanks for the reassurance!

Only hot water, the heating's fine luckily!! I think I've come up with a plan to have it fixed sooner but to the PP who said I'll be off school- no I'll be in as normal. Fingers crossed it gets fixed before we lock down fully anyway!
