Probably not what you are looking for but I’m getting a maccies breakfast delivered for my kids as a treat as they are all so sad at the moment ( teenagers). I’m nipping to M&S in a bit to pick up comfort food for later- pizzas, profiteroles and loads of crisps. I think amazing can sometimes just be comfort and familiar stuff.

If you want fancy I’d get a great cheeseboard. Can’t beat fancy cheese!!

A nice gammon.
A roast leg of lamb?

LarryUnderwood · 31/12/2020 08:18

We're having smoked salmon and pickled cucumber on thinky sliced baguette toasts. Followed by rib eye roast with crushed roast new potatoes, 3 sauces - chimichurri, bearnaise and garlic oil, and rocket salad. Pomegranate meringue for pud. Then a cheeseboard. And champagne.

Vitaminsss · 31/12/2020 08:19

Yeah, I would prefer to order in from my favourite restaurant. Doesn’t have to be a dodgy kebab shop if that’s what you’re thinking - all high end restaurants in my area deliver and Nando’s and the like are all on Uber eats!

TanglinOrchards · 31/12/2020 08:23

Oysters on the shell or scallops au gratin

proper beef wellington with potato dauphinoise

chocolate fudhe cake

champagne.

Bigbutttosmallbutt · 31/12/2020 08:24

These are amazing ideas!

Any for breakfast also?

We're having scallops for starters, probably with chorizo. Then lamb chops with pomme anna (my new favourite potato item). Cheese for pudding.

FloconDeNeige · 31/12/2020 08:31

We’re having escargots 🐌 as amuse bouche, scallops in the shell as a starter, then ballotin of pheasant with gratin dauphinois. Ending with a toasted marshmallow ginger cake.

I should say that this stuff was all easy to come by as I live in Switzerland on the French border. Except for the cake which I’m making, the rest is coming from the boucher/traiteur in France.

We used to do kedgeree for breakfast on NYD - smoked haddock, rice with aromatic spices, onions, eggs, cream, lemon and parsley. DC used to love it but now DS1 is veggie.

Smoked salmon and scrambled egg bagels with blood orange bucks fizz would be a good breakfast. Or proper bircher muesli, made the night before and topped with loads of fresh berries.

I love a whole poached salmon as the main dish on NYD. It just feels fresh and new, unlike all the dried fruits and spices tastes of Christmas.
Have it gutted by the fishmonger but keep the scales on. Stuff with finely sliced fennel, shallots, lemon and dill. Wrap in foil and then steam/poach over a tin of water and white wine.

Once cooked and cooled, the skin with the scales on lifts off easily. Decorate with wafer thin slices of lemon and lime all over it, lots of dill and parsley and serve with creme fraiche or greek yoghurt dill dip, minted new potatoes and your favourite greens in lemon and chilli butter.

I am afraid I never have decent breakfast ideas as I do not really eat breakfast!

My ideal breakfast would probably be

fresh warmed baguette with real butter and slices of ham.

Years ago I visited Moscow and had for breakfast a slice of baguette rela butter and caviar. That was flipping amazing. I do sometimes do that at home.

MumboJumbo20 · 31/12/2020 08:36

What about cinnamon French toast for breakfast with fresh berries and creme fraiche?

LarryUnderwood · 31/12/2020 08:42

We're having homemade sausage and egg mcmuffins!

FloconDeNeige · 31/12/2020 09:00

Have a look for a video by Tasty for ‘Full English breakfast cups’. We made them for Christmas day morning. Essentially hash browns layered with baked beans, sliced sausage & bacon, a beaten egg poured over than topped with cheese and put in the oven for 5 mins. They were delicious!

SmellyPooHead · 31/12/2020 10:19

We are having a big seafood platter followed by cheese and port.
