Why did they kill off Mr Heckles in Friends?

That was a mistake. They could have kept that background storyline running throughout (like ugly naked guy until Ross took over and Gunther loving Rachel) for little heckles interruptions on their lives.

Ah now you've got me scrolling back on Channel 5.

Pie in hood!

Monica broke my seashell lamp.

Monica’s speech in front of the tv magnifier!

@Destinysdaughter

Wasn't it to show Chandler how lonely his life might turn out to be if he carried on being so picky about women he dated? When Chandler read his yearbook, he was shocked to see how many similarities he had with Mr H when he was a young man?
Yep. Sort of like the ghost of Christmas future, only not Christmas.

'Goodbye Mr Heckles, we'll try to keep it down' always gets me.

YouBoughtMeAWall · 31/12/2020 01:28

I suppose try didn’t actually expect friends to run for as long as it did. I don’t think any sit com had run for 10 seasons before friends? Maybe they were just hoping for a third season and losing Mr Heckles in season two didn’t seem like the loss it turned out to be (IMO)

It must be gutting to look back at it and wonder why your character couldn't be a series regular.

he could have appeared at least a couple of times a season, that would have worked really well!

YouBoughtMeAWall · 31/12/2020 11:19

Totally agree. A couple of times a season would have been perfect. In that article it says he was only in 4 episodes. It really felt like much more.

was it only 4?

no way!!

YouBoughtMeAWall · 31/12/2020 11:35

Sorry, 5 episodes! The 5th was his only appearance in season 2.

It's a bit like Andrew Scott as Moriarty in the first season of Sherlock.

He was only onscreen for a few minutes in Season 1 but - actually that's not really comparable because his Moriarty became an international phenomenon!
