Not fun day at work so winding down with wine and music, feeling ooolld on realising Massive Attack Mezzanine is 22 years old! Tired rambling but how did time go so quickly, mainstay of uni days.

I know. Watched a 2000 film yesterday and it felt like that time was my time. The actors were wearing my clothes...

Unfinished sympathy is 30 years old come February'21.

30 years old!

Still sounds as fresh and new as it did then.
My absolute all time #1

When I was at university, the lad in the room next door tortured me with Born To Do It by Craig David.

Unbelievably, this album is now 20.

Sad

I have a few Massive Attack tracks and others from that era on my Lockdown Play list - takes me back to happier times.

My 13 year old DS describes it as the old lady playlist...

MichelleScarn · 30/12/2020 23:28

Nooo sycamore it is a young, fresh and totally cool playlist! (That makes me feel like my parents saying 'hip' and 'groovy')

FFS what has happened to us? 😭 Parklife was released in 1994!

MichelleScarn · 30/12/2020 23:41

Bought Parklife on cassette from Our Price to listen to on my shitty Boots pink, purple and yellow boom box!

I’ve tried telling him he doesn’t appreciate real music and then realised I sounded like my Dad. To be fair there is some stuff from that 80s and earlier but what’s wrong with Leonard Cohen, James Taylor, The Smiths, The Cure, The House Martins, The Man from Delmonte, James, Prince, They might be Giants? to me my university years were only a few years ago...

Ah sycamore good choices! Saw Cohen at Edinburgh Castle in 2008, an amazing set!

I saw him in Manchester a few years before he died - absolutely amazing.

What? Goodness!

I maintain 1998 was a particularly good year for music. It was also my year abroad and watched a lot of MTV - outstanding year for music videos too.

I forget sometimes how long ago this all was!

OTannenbaum · 31/12/2020 00:00

Misbeehived I agree with you about 1998 being a good year for music. And I was on my gap year too! Still remember sitting on buses in Bangkok listening to Madonna’s new album Ray of Light (on a portable CD player of course 😂)

OTannenbaum · 31/12/2020 00:01

I feel like the last 20 - ok 22 years have just zipped by 😭

Furries · 31/12/2020 03:21

Yeah, the realisation hits hard! I liked some of MA stuff, but for me the realisation hit when I noticed that Leftism album from Leftfield was 25 years ago - wtf did that time go?!

A few of my friends constantly say “ I can’t believe your sister was 17 when we met, I still think of her being that age”. We all definitely get stuck in our skewed time warp of time - I just wish I could go back there!

custardlemontree · 31/12/2020 04:11

The film Grease is 42 years old, realised that yesterday Confused

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit Craig David MBE as he now is- so we know what the Culture Secretary listens to!!

Garby · 31/12/2020 09:20

I went to the mezzanine 20 year anniversary
gig at the O2 and was horrified by the age of the crowd - we were all middle aged! There was still a fight though, so apparently not that grown up!

When I was in a coffee shop in September the two staff members were obviously students and listening to Parklife. I was horrified after doing some maths and realising their relationship to that was similar to mine and the Beegees

ZenNudist · 31/12/2020 09:23

I tend to think of it as a newer album!

mammmamia · 31/12/2020 10:16

So do I! I saw them live when Mezzanine first came out. I was also on a year abroad and all their albums just remind me of that time. Such good memories.
Unfinished Sympathy is an all time favourite, I actually walked down the aisle to that!
