Can anyone help with ideas to identify this old film?
Early to mid 80s, I think I watched it as a video rental so it may have been direct to video
It began with an overhead helicopter shot and radio news showing LA traffic jams (or a fake LA style city), smog and the voiceover talking about a black gunge coming out of the taps.
(This isn’t a horror film - there are a few 80s horrors that could match the description)
It was a basic cheap family comedy
The city family load up the car to escape the rat race and black gunge.
A standard Hollywood family with teenage son and daughter, son plugged into his Walkman and daughter comparing about loss of social life.
They escape to a community of weird country folk, and culture shock of city vs country.
I think it was a wooded hillside / mountain like community.
Hilarity ensues and they can’t fit in or cope with the new life, and are going to return to the city
Along comes a storm and flood, the whole community and city folk come together
After establishing friendships and learning life lessons the city family head back to LA, only to see traffic jams, smog etc and make a U-turn
