I need to read more in 2021

I used to read loads, never sat down without a book or at the very least a magazine. Now, of course, I fill all that time on my phone instead, which I know is not good for me.

If I were to set myself a target for books read in 2021 what would be a sensible number? I'd tend to read in bed before dropping off and more at weekends at least while there's nothing else to do

What must read, but not so challenging as to make me give up before I start, books would you recommend?

I set a target last year (but didn't quite reach it - I read 45 books). This year I am not setting a target though as there are lots of long books I want to read and a target puts me off! As for what to read - surely that depends on what you like and what you can get your hands on?

Are you going to buy books or read on a kindle?

Meredithgrey1 · 29/12/2020 17:27

What have you read that you’ve really liked, and what haven’t you liked?
I’ve just finished Hamnet which I loved so would recommend that, but might not be your preferred genre.

Well I have a Kindle but oddly I don't find reading it as satisfying. I used to go to the library every week without fail. Every week from being about 4yo to 40yo!

When I was a big reader I really did read anything, from Dickens, through LeCarre, Jeffrey Archer Blush historical novels, modern romances, self help books, travel guides...

I read a lot more during lockdown. I read books about autzwich and refugees. Made things that were happening here seem not so bad. Also downloaded a few audio books. You get free ones with audible.

I need to read more too. I've just put an app on my phone to track what I've read so I can see how many books I actually read!

I want to recommend 1 book a month. I like easy targets.

If you want some sort of structure, google 2021 reading challenges - there are loads of them that might give you an idea where to start e.g.

I enjoy Victoria Hislop's novels if you're looking for recommendations 🙂

Join a book group - you are guaranteed at least 1 book a month then!

I'm not sure if it was recommended on here or by a friend on fb but you can get free kindle books from the fussy librarian, they keep sending me emails to say what the latest books are because I signed up about a month ago, but I haven't got round to reading any yet.

A friend bought me the ragged trousered philanthropist for Christmas, which I've been wanting to read for ages so I need to get stuck into that first.
