How to make a birthday special

8 replies

DS 10th birthday in January.

We done so many walks etc any ideas for something to make his day a bit special?

We are in tier 4 so can't really go anywhere. He's a bit sick of video calls and we've had quite a few take aways recently

Any brainwaves?

An online escape room, buy in afternoon tea, a nice birthday cake or cupcakes, his fave tajeway and / or a birthday balloon

For dd1's 9th birthday earlier in lockdown we made an escape room in the spare room, made a pretend funfair in the garden (she got a candyfloss maker as a present and the rest was using things we already had like shooting cans with a nerf gun etc) and did a short zoom party with friends (we dropped off stuff for this beforehand - played bingo and some guessing games, then did some craft while chatting).

Fire pit. Make smores. Cook popcorn. If you've got/ fancy investing in a pizza oven, make pizza outdoors.

Indoor fireworks can be fun - Amazon sell them

Escape room themed to whatever is the latest obsession. There are various ones you can buy and download like this Harry Potter one or some brilliant ideas on Pinterest for making your own.

A treasure hunt to find the presents can be fun, and again is easy to customise to a theme or to ability levels.

We let ours choose the menu for the entire day so that every meal felt a little bit special and we made a (tiny) themed cake together.

There are tons of ideas floating around for zoom games and it would be easy enough to email or post things like bingo cards before hand.

Both of ours really enjoyed their lockdown parties.

@thelegohooverer thank you that's brilliant!
