DRY JANUARY 2021! This way please... all welcome

It’s that time of year again... the late Christmas present to our livers!

You may be thinking of doing Dry January to:

*detox a little after seasonal overindulgence, or
*help you cut down a bit generally, or
*help you start to get out of a harmful alcohol habit, or
*just be a bit healthier for a month...

It’s good for all of those things!

I find the MN DJ threads excellent for support, encouragement, sharing info,‘we’re in this together’ camaraderie, suggestions for grown up drinks, aversion techniques and just fun.

This is my fourth year of DJ and I swear it has made all the difference to me; it was so hard first time, but having succeeded I did dry June and October after that, and do so every year. It has broken my habit, banished the craving and reset my relationship with booze.

I won’t be finding DJ too difficult this year, but some will. Hopefully this thread will help.

Come climb aboard the wagon! 🙂☕️🧃

Wine would fix that!!

No it wouldn't, @BrassicaBabe, no it wouldn't!
You'd have guilt, regret and annoyance with yourself to deal with too, if you have a drink. Also, you'll sleep better tonight without a drink and be better able to cope with what tomorrow throws at you.
Hope your meeting goes well.

@InTheseUncertainTimes - I agree re quit lit. The ones I particularly don't relate to are the ones where the sober upper is supported by the love of family and friends. I'm sure lots of boozers are the way they are because they feel a bit lonely.

@BrassicaBabe & @Ladywinesalot - I find DJ has the opposite effect - I always feel less anxious and depressed when I drink less. Takes a while to kick in but I really notice it if I then go back to drinking more.

@buzzofthebumblebee - yes certainly procrastination and to many tea breaks are not helpful for me either. I have got rather ill disciplined working at home and am trying to get a bit strict with myself this year.

Am feeling a bit hopeful with slightly longer days - I can manage to go for a decent walk after work not in the dark.

Online shopping this evening to address everyone's essential "needs" e.g. cakes/ crisps Confused

Good evening! Day ... who frigging knows?!
Stayed dry, just. This week has been a trial.

Sorry to hear all of you seem to be suffering, one way or another Sad everything is just a bit shit, isn't it?
This has been so much harder than any of my other DJs, I normally sleep like a baby but no such luck this year, I'm just lying awake staring at the ceiling for hours after I actually go to bed.

I have a single can of premixed Seedlip & tonic that I might sample tonight. Never had it before so we'll see!

Lots of very unmumsnetty love to you all! Thanks

Plonque · 18/01/2021 20:09

Eeeeeshh ... Seedlip Spice 94 and Grapefruit Tonic. It's a no from me! Devastated

CrystalE · 18/01/2021 21:43

@Plonque - I dredged up some Seedlip from a DJ past the other night to have with a perfectly nice grapefruit tonic water.

A waste of a good glass of tonic water IMHO

CrystalE · 18/01/2021 21:44

Going to attempt bed. KOKO all - we are more than halfway there

BrassicaBabe · 18/01/2021 22:19

Nice one all! That's another one under our belts without murdering anyone. Grinbtw, when do I start to glow?! Hmm My app says I've saved £160 Shock Not sure that's correct. Well I hope not.

Earlier on I was laughing at myself for considering an attempt at 100 days. Now that I'm going to bed I'm able to at least give the idea a little head room.

Msfoxy17 · 18/01/2021 22:37

My app says I've saved £108.37... it doesn't feel like enough to be honest! As it feels like an eternity! I do have something in mind that I'd like to buy if I manage to make it to 2 months or more.. that's spurring me on a bit.
Night all and hoping you all get a good rest!

Plonque · 18/01/2021 22:59

CrystalE I'm bloody glad I only got one single premixed can, means I'm only down by £2. Be gutted if I'd spent £27 on a litre Blush

katmarie · 18/01/2021 23:03

@HPLikecraft sorry you've had a rough time of it, well done on sticking with dj though. Good to see you back on your thread :)

CrystalE · 18/01/2021 23:04

@Plonque - I consider a whole bottle as a long term investment. At the rate I am drinking it it will last about 25 years.

I certainly need to "play the video to the end" when it comes to thinking that I want to drink a glass of Seedlip, although it is admittedly a very short video.

I could maybe repurpose it as a home Covid testing kit - to check if I have lost my sense of taste or smell

CrystalE · 18/01/2021 23:05

As you can see - going to bed has not worked. Am trying again. Sigh

Plonque · 18/01/2021 23:14

That made me proper chuckle Grin

HPLikecraft · 19/01/2021 00:20

Thanks for your kind words, all!

Still haven't caught up, but realise we desperately need a new thread. Here it is!
