Thorntons viennese truffle ruined

Just working my way through a box of their continental. Couldn’t fine the Viennese until I notice a load of uninteresting looking chocs left in the box.
They have replaced the sugar coated covering with boring milk chocolate. It’s too sickly now. Am gutted. They have clearly done this as it’s cheaper but it was a classic. What were they thinking! Next it will be the alpini!!! I already thought they were going downhill but this is the start of real demise. A sad day.

@MozzchopsThirty

Totally agree, they should be sugared

And the alpini is now called an 'alpine truffle' 🙄
If they fuck with the vanilla truffle I'll be fuming

This is getting serious now, the very cheek of them.

@notacooldad

Oh no!! Do nuts me two packets as part of my 'expected' Christmas presents. I've not opened them yet!
I love that you DH became Do nuts...I don't know why it's funny but I'm silently giggling trying not to disturb my sleeping donut dhGrin😂
Twillow · 28/12/2020 23:18

We had the same reaction OP. They were perfect before.
Christmas was ruined!

OK I've opened the packet and photographed the evidence.
They are not as surgery but still sugared!

My dh got me three boxes of Thornton's for Christmas this year. One cherry liqueurs, one dark choc and one continental. In the dark mix there is a caramel chocolate one which is AMAZING! Not tried the continental ones yet, but the cherry liqueurs are lovely too.

Teuchterlass · 28/12/2020 23:32

Ruined for me too. AND they are smaller. Instead of being a two bite indulgence they now go in in one and don't touch the sides.

TuxedoPantherSheHer · 28/12/2020 23:35

That’s a shame. They’d already made the coating much thicker which was bad enough.

Didyousaynutella · 29/12/2020 02:28

Apparent you can still get them in individual bags. Not much use if all their shops are shut!

MaliceOrgan · 29/12/2020 02:32

I stopped getting them a few years ago when they changed the recipe. Shame as they were so lovely once.

Thats what dh got me.
Even the packaging has charged this year!!!

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 29/12/2020 10:25

I could not find them anywhere this year, when i googled it said they had been discontinued 😟 clearly not if you lot are still finding them but nothing in stock anywhere. They were-my favourites.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 29/12/2020 10:36

I'm still annoyed with them for getting rod of the white chocolate mints they did back in the 90s. The Viennese truffle was my second favourite. Now there's no reason to buy from them at all Sad

moglovesmincepies · 29/12/2020 10:37

Oh no! I bloody love these! Used to buy the bars

thisnthat · 29/12/2020 10:50

I had a Saturday job in Thornton’s 35 years ago! The Viennese truffle was my favourite (82 calories each - I remember!) and the other Saturday girls and I used to eat so many of them, as well as the toffee that we used to smash by hand with a special toffee hammer (probably shouldn’t admit to that Blush)
I agree the latest version of the Viennese truffle is an abomination.

Kpo58 · 29/12/2020 11:06

Thornton's went down hill about 8 years ago. I haven't touched them since the chocolate tasted more like butter than chocolate.

Dita73 · 29/12/2020 13:01

This has been a major cause of distress in our house over the Christmas period. I loved,my daughters loved them and my mum. Every birthday,Christmas, etc a bag of these was always a given. Years ago we used to buy them in kilo boxes. I cannot believe what they have done! What the hell were they thinking?! My life will never be the same again. Gutted 😢

Crinkle77 · 29/12/2020 13:28

Thornton's chocolates used to be lovely but they went down the pan some time ago. They just taste cheap and nasty.
