So she does not like:
Alcohol
Jewellery
Watches
Flowers
Travel
People

She has arthritis so can’t walk far, waiting for another knee replacement.

She does love her garden, her house, a couple of her grandkids, one, possibly 2 of her own children, tea and definitely cake.
Birthday in March.

Please help., I’m totally at a loss.

Photos of the family members she likes, possibly a few in a large frame
Raised beds/planters for herb garden (this was a big hit with my grandmother earlier this year)
Bird bath
Swing seat for garden

We got my Dad a bird box with a wifi camera in it for his 70th. He absolutely loves watching the birds build their nest and lay their eggs, feed their young etc. It’s fascinating!

A nice photo done into an oil painting?

It was my 70th just before Xmas. The things I loved included a pair of gloves from a designer I admire, an expensive scented candle, a home made picture, two beautiful gin glasses.

The 70 and over of us are not a homogenous group, like people of all ages, we all like different things. So buy her things you think she'd like. Msybe, because it's a significant birthday, be as generous as you can reasonably afford to be.

I very much hope that nobody ever presents me with a photo turned into an oil painting. And please, no photos of family members, even the ones I like!
I'm guessing you and your children are not among the favoured few she likes?
Why not ask her what she'd like?

Seafog · 28/12/2020 22:08

I was not the giver, but my friend recieved that (painting of her and her dog in a canoe) for her 70th and was well pleased
Different strokes for different folks,eh?

A nice scented candle, or a special china vase or figurine.

Slap up cream tea (can be done at home if still locked down)

Definitely a no to oil painting.
she dislikes animals, has never kept pets, so no there too.
Definitely no to anything designer, she is not a designer type.
Afternoon tea sounds nice, I’ll have a look, there’s a lovely place near us that does lovely meals, possibly take her there.

I’ve asked her, she says she doesn’t want anything. Confused
