I’ve booked me, Dh and 3 kids on a last minute deal flying long haul business class on Weds. we’ve never done this before.
Are there any top tips? Kids are 8, 14, 17

Ooo, no tips but where are you going? Anywhere nice?

Honeyroar · 28/12/2020 14:11

A lot of business class products have been cut down to basic because of Covid. So there might not be as much food/frills. BA are talking about reinstating full service soon. But the seat will still be nice.

What on earth do you want ‘tips’ on? You get on the plane and sit in your assigned seat! You may get express security access at the airport and there will likely be a lounge you can use.

No tips except to enjoy it!

NewIdeasToday · 28/12/2020 14:12

Make sure you have really good travel insurance.

Lightningrain · 28/12/2020 14:16

Which airline are you going with?

I like to have a look online before the flight to choose which films I want to watch otherwise I can spend an hour looking in between ordering drinks etc.

Other than that just enjoy it!

lemonsandlimes123 · 28/12/2020 14:20

Also if it’s BA they are shite and will charge you to select your seats in advance!

F0M0 · 28/12/2020 14:52

@lemonsandlimes123 what an apt username for someone so bitter!

What a veiled brag. Why are you going away anyway? I thought travel except for emergencies or work was banned?

80sColourfulChristmas · 28/12/2020 15:01

I actually think you might struggle to get to the airport anyway as at many county borders and nearby to motorways etc, there are police directing people back home unless traveling towards their home/work or in an emergency.

A travel blogger I know was turned away at the airport when he was planning a trip review for his blog. Technically he was traveling for work (he's paid for his travel blogs) but airport staff did not agree and he was turned away and refunded!!

MarshaBradyo · 28/12/2020 15:03

Where are you going?

No tips necessary. BC is a nicer way to fly, more room, you can sleep etc. Not much more to it.

We’re on our way back to the UK

We left well before T4 was announced.

I'm confused. You posted this thread yesterday and said you leave Wednesday? T4 was announced last week?

So you're coming TO the UK long haul? You say it was a last minute deal so apologies if I'm wrong here, but that implies you live abroad if traveling here was a last minute decision. I'm not sure visiting the UK is a wise idea right now and you may still be turned away.

If you live in the UK, why is returning here involve a 'last minute' booking? Surely when you left you had a return ticket?

Either way, flying long haul to/from the UK right now is highly forbidden and inadvisable unless for emergencies or work.

Perhaps I'm just tired, I just can't workout what you mean, sorry

Mumblechum0 · 29/12/2020 02:04

Depends where you’re coming from.

We always fly first or business when long haul but don’t bother for short haul, there’s very little difference apart from the price.

BA business is pretty comfy.

Hopdathelf · 29/12/2020 08:47

Another one slightly puzzled as to what “tips” you might be expecting unless you rarely/never fly at all?

Along the lines of everyone brings a cashmere blanket so you must too? And no trashy novels or films - Booker and Palm d’Or winners only?

WanderingMilly · 29/12/2020 09:04

Congratulations, business class is so much better for long haul.
Get to the airport early if you have the use of a lounge, as it's worth having.
Not sure which country you're coming from but in my experience, most countries have better lounge facilities than us in the UK. The food is nice and worth it, some have plenty of books, newspapers, TV etc. They all have nice bathroom facilities and some even have showers.

Depends on the airline as to whether they give you newspapers once on board....often better to collect the free ones in the lounge and take with you.

Business class is quieter, the ride is so much more pleasant and usually there is plenty of locker room. They will start serving drinks etc. early to keep you occupied, often even before take off.

Not sure if you will be sleeping during your flight, some really long-haul business class seats have a small cabin and a seat which turns into a bed (I had this when going overnight from UK to South America). Everything was supplied, including toiletries, sheets and blankets. There's an evening meal and breakfast to wake you up, and they let you off first once you've landed.

Enjoy it!
