Phone insurance for school child?

Trying to find an insurance policy which will cover DC’s phone for theft, loss and damage, which will also cover incidents at school. Plus it will need to be in my name as DC is under 18.

Not fully covered by home insurance plus the excess is too high as it’s not a massively expensive phone.

Recommendations would be much appreciated as I’ve looked at multiple insurers and am still none the wiser as to which is best.

We have Amex My Essentials. It’s about £15 a month and covers all gadgets, glasses etc. We have all our phones plus iPads, kindles, glasses, laptop etc on it. Whenever we get a new thing we just ring them up and add it on.

Thanks. Is that not just for American Express card holders?

Do you need it?

I've never had any issues with 3 dc. We had one cracked screen of dd2 when she fell at home, and no other issues. They know if they break/lose it then they get the family Nokia brick until their next birthday/Christmas. That makes a pretty good incentive to be careful.

I was thinking it would probably be worth it for the first year as it’s new but after that I probably wouldn’t bother as it would be more economical to put the insurance money aside for repair/replacement.

I look on it this way. Insurance would be at least £10 a month. That's £120 a year.
You can get a smart phone for less than £120. Might not be their choice, but they don't need a top of the range one.
