If you could retrain, what would you do?

Just thinking really. I like my job, but it's low paid, and there is no opportunity for progression. DH is a bit older than me, and is happy with his current job and the hours he works, so if we want any more money it'll be down to me to earn it, which is fine- I'm still quite young, as I had my children young, and feel I haven't reached my potential in terms of work. In hindsight I would have done something different at university - I did a humanities degree, which I loved, but was chocolate teapot like in terms of getting an actual job.

I've no money to retrain, and I feel as though I don't know what I'm good at any more, and don't know where to start.

What do you do now?
What do you earn already?
Are you thinking complete change or more branching out to a side job?

  • I work with children with special needs- everyone always says "why don't you become a teacher" but it's not feasible for various boring reasons.
  • just a bit above minimum wage - we live in a v.cheap area though, bills are paid, and we don't need to count pennies, but there isn't much left over- no money for holidays or anything. I'd like to be in a position to help out the children with university and house deposits when they're older.
  • I honestly don't know. I think, in some ways, a complete change- I want to see what else I'm good at, and what I can do. But that feels like an indulgence, when realistically I have to earn money. I feel that I could do something more though.
