What age for playing Minecraft ?

My DS has been watching minecraft videos on kids you tube and has really crime enthralled with it. Previously he has only really been into one type of toy & subject to watch and this new interest seems to have given him other ideas. He's even enjoying other books we have about knights, magic and witches. I am a bit worried it's about killing people, so what age would you recommend they are before playing the actual game?

Also just to add that if the baddies “get” you, there’s no blood or anything you just sort of bounce off them and say ow.

My 5yo twins play it ( older siblings) just set it up on peaceful/ creative mode. They play it on the Pc and it's really helped mouse control. They don't play online though just in their own world.

Do be careful about the youtube videos my middle child uses a lot of american slang nowadays. I'mhoping he grows out of it.

I think most DC prefer the creative mode so they can just get on and create their own world.
My DS and DD have been playing on it for years in creative mode.

Ok, I somewhat take back my comments about it being a benign and gentle game for young children. I asked DS why there was a tapping noise coming from his house: apparently he has entombed a bunch of zombies in a chamber in his mine and the noise is them crashing about.

I think it's better for them to play mine craft than watch videos of it on You Tube. At least playing it is interactive, building and creating etc. My 9 year old plays it but only in creative mode as she's not keen on the zombies etc.
