Could this be fibromyalgia?

I've already been diagnosed with arthritis and hyper mobility.
I have 'gut issues' Blush. I also have overwhelming tiredness (for the last four years) to the point where I feel ill after work and have to have a nap. Never feel like I've slept enough.
Painful hips, issues with knees and shoulder....
BUT the thing that has me wondering is the sudden onset of painful joints. Yesterday, I went to get up from the sofa, and couldn't move due to the extreme pain in my hip. It made me cry - and I don't cry easily.
This morning, I picked up a bowl and hooked my thumb over the edge, as you do, but it hurt so much I almost dropped it. I still can't bend it without awful pain.
This kind of thing happens quite often.
Does any of this sound familiar?
I've seen a rheumatologist in the past and been fobbed off, so I'm wary of seeing my GP to get the same result again.
TIA.

Ehlers-Danlos syndrome?

mineofuselessinformation · 27/12/2020 19:34

I don't have the stretchy skin, so don't necessarily think it's that.
Would it explain the joint pain?

I was also going to say EDS - Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.

My middle DD has it, and has gastric issues, Bowel issues, chronic fatigue, joint pain, amongst many other things.

OP - have you looked into EDS symptoms - in your case, specifically hEDS - type 3.

Thank you both for your answers.
From the way things have been, I think I need to look into it before I contact my GP and pretty much tell them what I think it is.
I forgot to mention that my pelvis has become frighteningly clunky over the last three months too.

You sound very much like me - although I don’t have arthritis. The GP suspects EDS with myself.

generallygenial · 27/12/2020 19:40

It could explain the hypermobility, joint pain, osteoarthritis, gastric issues, severe fatigue. So all the symptoms you have listed!

I believe about 40% of people with EDS don't have extra stretchy skin (although it is considered the main 'trademark' symptom as there aren't many other explanations for the stretchy skin)

Have a look into it and maybe join some EDS Facebook groups to discuss symptoms and diagnosis

Coeliac or gluten allergy/intolerance? My mum had this and she's a different women since cutting out gluten. Joint flare ups were a symptom as well as awful tiredness, fatigue, general feeling not being well and lots of gut problems. Hope you get to the bottom of it.

I see you felt fobbed off by rheumatologist- Did you have investigations for rheumatoid arthritis? Are your joints hot/swollen? You only mention the pain so I assume not

mineofuselessinformation · 27/12/2020 19:57

I was negative for rheumatoid factor (this was a few years back - joint trouble goes back over twenty years).
I don't have the classic hot swollen joints typically, but am waiting for an mri on my knee which is persistently swollen and painful.
Other joints feel 'warm' when they are very sore, but don't swell.
