From March my shopping habits were reduced to a couple shops and pre christmas I rediscovered Aldi. In a few days I will be doing another shop. What do you recommend I pick up? No meat products please.

So far I will be on the look out for more mini choc eclairs and all butter croissants.

Raspberry and passionfruit yogurt
Lemon curd yogurt
Halloumi fries
Baking Camembert

Clawdy · 27/12/2020 19:57

They do lovely vegetarian pies - the cauliflower cheese one is delicious.

PhylisPrice · 27/12/2020 20:00

Be on the look out for the use by dates, I'm absolutely not a freak about them and give everything a good extra couple of days but I managed to buy yoghurts 5 days out of date and grated cheese that was in date but mouldy 🤢. Shame as it totally put me off going there!

CoffeeRunner · 27/12/2020 20:02

Just shop as you normally would anywhere.

I love Aldi. Many of their every day products are far superior to other supermarket own brands.

Enjoy!

Kindlethefourth · 27/12/2020 20:03

Tomato and marspacone pasta sauce. 79p a jar and a great lazy standby meal. Seeded bloomer bread.

MadisonAvenue · 27/12/2020 20:05

Peppermint infusion ‘tea’bags
Cheese and garlic flatbreads
Skin on fries

yvanka · 27/12/2020 20:06

The salted pretzel chocolate is the best thing I've ever eaten.

Also colossal greek olives. Absolutely divine.

IggyAce · 27/12/2020 20:10

Protein yoghurts
Greek yoghurt
Cashew nuts
100% peanut butter
Olive spread
Lentil curls
Antibacterial wipes
Fish burgers
Mosher Roth dark chocolate

jocktamsonsbairn · 27/12/2020 20:17

The chocolate florentines. They are essential. I may have eaten 6 boxes in Nov and Dec...

Pumpkinstace · 27/12/2020 20:28

Only on mumsnet is a two to Aldi a novelty that requires a thread.

Frouby · 27/12/2020 20:32

Just shop as you normally would OP, if you like the look of it, chances are it's nice. I shop at Aldi, Morrisons and M and S and apart from price, don't find much to chose between them. M and S is nice for quick tea nights, and their dine in dine deals (£12, pizza and stir fry one for £6) is fab. Aldi is brill for stocking the cupboard and fridge for basics, Morrisons good for basics plus branded cleaning stuff, fish counter and bakery.

H1978 · 27/12/2020 21:15

Chive pastry twists are a must have

ByersRd · 27/12/2020 21:17

Almond/oat milk, a bargain. Usually £1.85 each in most supermarkets, about 80p for Aldi's brand.

poorbuthappy · 27/12/2020 21:26

This Christmas the chorizo wrapped in bacon have been tremendous.

isseys4xmastinselcats · 27/12/2020 22:11

their specially selected cheeses in the black and gold wrapper are excellent especially the somerset or caledonian ones if you like a strong cheese , their passata, curry sauces with the little pots of spices on top are just like indain restaurant ones

BringPizza · 27/12/2020 22:14

Second the tomato & mascarpone pasta sauce. Most things are good, but the bleach is thin and the pesto is gutless. The fruit & veg is our Aldi is cracking.

yellow25 · 27/12/2020 22:17

Bagels! Better than warburtons. DHs fave red wine too... no idea of the name but it's got an orange label.

Chlordiazepoxide · 27/12/2020 22:23

Flowers are good,

Sea salt dark chocolate bars in cereal bar bit.

We like the crisps, nuts and I love the face creams, even the cheap night cream is brill. Watch the fruit, I always find it goes off quick

21833efb · 27/12/2020 22:23

Moser Roth chocolate
Three Fish Roast
Frozen veg
Magnum alike ice creams
Chocolate mousse
Crisps
Laundry and cleaning products

IMO their fresh fruit and veg isn't great quality.

Sparklehead · 27/12/2020 22:27

I love Aldi, and always shop there. Favourite staples include:
Sunflower seed rye bread
Organic porridge oats
Shelled walnuts
Mixed seeds
Garlic passata (in glass jar)
Sundried tomatoes
Green olives
Frozen cherries
No chicken nuggets
Saltnpepper calamari
Frozen bass fillets
Freeman’s bay Sauvignon blanc (delicious)
Cans of craft ales

Longdistance · 27/12/2020 22:31

Torchon ham.
Pizza dough bases.
Their own marmite is very nice.

Nsky · 27/12/2020 22:31

Breakfast tea ( never drink it myself ) for others, premium cat food food.
Filled pasta ( the bigger stuff).
Frozen veg , sliced onions, mushrooms, peppers, butternut squash

BringPizza · 27/12/2020 22:36

I'm surprised by people slating the fruit and veg as ours is brilliant. That said, I keep almost everything in the fridge (which thinks it's twinned with a blast chiller Grin ).

ShandlersWig · 27/12/2020 22:54

Washing powder tablets, dirt cheap but great.
Agree bleach is thin.
Chocolate is fab and so is the £2.29 rose wine.

Chlordiazepoxide · 28/12/2020 16:28

Ooh those pink loo cleaners tablets are ok don't last as long as brand ones but much better value
